The comedy is hit and miss, and is a little too bro-y for my taste, but I gotta give props to Bo for trying to push the medium forward. He uses technical theatre elements: lighting, sound design and even set design; in a way I've never seen a stand-up comedian do before and it elevates the craft to another level. I would love to see more comedians experiment with this kind of thing.

It's just more Bo. Feels oddly derivative of his last special which may be true or maybe it's just me. There were also a couple bits that fell flat for me, but also a couple really good ones. If you've never seen anything by Bo, I'd recommend his previous special what.

"Make Happy" is the natural continuation of "what." and mostly suffers from it. The energetic Burnham now and then manages to sneak in a couple of thought-provoking or even resonant bits in an enjoyable and competent whole, but the humour behind the flashiness of the show's structure isn't as unpredictable as he seems to think it is, or as it was the last time round. The meta card is played to death, and both the songs and stand-up feel like a lesser variation of an already established shtick.

I felt this was almost as good as Inside. Hilarious, inventive, but also very serious at times.

Depressing, rude, disengaged, trotted out, wearing a mask, oppressively performed, obnoxious, and spiteful of the audience and even more spiteful of himself, stuck in a cycle that's become a spiral where the only pain reliever is validation from a source he's tired of pleasing with the voice he's tired of hearing. He's sick of needing it, and he's pretty sure it isn't being happy, it's just being whatever perverted version of "right" a validation gang grants your sorry soul on an empty stage.

Well done, it is clear that Bo is talented and has a level of perfectionism that makes for a great watch. Entertaining and at times good critiques. But also a bit too pedestrian to make it a must watch.

There were some chuckles, but the whole "play piano & sing the joke" shtick got old quick, and dragged out the entire show.
