Only Murders in the Building

Ok 3 episodes in, I am not sure why, but this actually works pretty well. Two has been boomers join forces with a weird millennial to solve a murder mystery and make a podcast about it at the same time. Everyone plays their part well and the chemistry is good. I will stick with this.

s1: 90 // s2: 60 A nice blend of comedy and mystery with fun characters and unmistakable chemistry. Does sometimes dip into the "hey here's all of our famous friends" trap, though.

I've never really been a fan of Martin Short, I think Steve Martin is only occasionally funny, and the ads for this didn't look great. For some reason, I still checked this out. And I'm glad I did. They nailed the tone here, and everything just works. The mystery itself is fun, though nothing mindblowing, but the three leads have a very natural chemistry.

Cozy and zippy whodunnit fodder that is sure to keep even the most inattentive couch potato happy. So this is a winner, and the inspired casting of the three leads is, of course, the key to its success. Bring on season 3!

Dull and unimaginative.

Surprisingly, Selena Gomez meshes well with Steve Martin and Martin Short in this fun murder mystery.

A murder mystery should have a better script. Last few episodes of the first season made so little sense that it ruined the immersion. Suspension of disbelief can only keep you engaged for so long before your start caring. No idea how the latter seasons are, can't be bothered to check based on S1.

This was a chance find that I really enjoyed. You don't really know what to expect and in each episode, they throw something imaginative and original at you. It is a very difficult structure honestly, and this is why I liked it so much, it can just self-demolish at any time, but it does not. I'm looking forward to watching the second season. All actors excel, but Martin deserves a special mention; I love the opening credits also.

Season 1

Though interesting and clever, the laughs are few and far between, especially from the huge talents of Steve Martin and Martin Short.

The cast works really well together. Season 1 is more interesting overall than Season 2, but Season 2 still has some really clever episodes and pays of really nicely. I am excited to watch season 3!

Gomez is noticeably outshined by Martin and Short, but the show has plenty of laughs and a surprising amount of mystery.

The series started out great, but it declines a bit near the end of the first series. The twists throughout the show were fun and kept my interest. Season 2 loses its way with some weak casting choices and a messier story. It's fun to watch, but not a "must see."

Martin Short and Steve Martin have great chemistry. Not a fan of Selena Gomez in here, but hey, ratings. Saw the ending coming from a mile away, the overall plot leaves something to be desired. It's a cute show, a tad too long, but fun.

A really fun show. Loved both seasons 1 and 2, though the ending of season 2 was a bit rushed. I did not guess who the murderer was in either season, though I can't say I spent a lot of time thinking about it. Despite two famous comedians and a famous singer staring in the show, be aware this is more of a mystery drama, not a comedy or musical show.

Decent and moderately amusing first season, pretty fucking terrible second.

S1: I was not expecting to like it this much. If you haven’t listened to Serial, drop 5 points but if you have, it adds a lil bit extra since even the theme music is influenced by it, let alone the whole structure, and the podcaster (the name :)). Well written, well produced, directed and acted. Great characters, a good show.

I like the cast and am happy to watch Short and Martin in most things. It’s pulpy, fun whodunnit fluff.

This is an amazing show. Funny, likeably, and charming. Both Martin and Short are perfect. I want more.

Selana Gomez's acting seems a bit flat and monotone as compared to comedic styles of Steve Martin and Martin Short, but maybe that was intentional. It's an entertaining murder mystery series

It started so well, but slowly went downhill up to the last episode, which was the final disappointment. However, I am pleasantly surprised by Selena Gomez as an actress.

i would be left out in the building, i hate podcasts... but also, the martin short snicker gets me everytime
