Ricky Gervais: Mortality

I thoroughly enjoyed my time.

Hafif gülümsettiği anlar oldu, ama genelde tedirgin izlediğimizi itiraf edeyim.

Went in with low expectations after his last one and a couple of lukewarm reviews of this but perhaps that’s why I found it passable. Far from his best but an improvement on Armageddon and at least I tittered occasionally. The whole woke/cancel culture thing has been the focus of Gervais’ stand-ups for the last three shows now and is getting tiresome. The pacing feels a bit off too, with him just reeling off material incessantly throughout.

He seems to have run out of things to say. Few laughs. To me it’s strange how frequently he mentions Epstein and his island: maybe he just thinks that’s a common reference point, but I can’t help feeling that he’s less immune to social media nonsense than he thinks he is, which might not matter so much if the jokes were funnier. The title is misleading: he really doesn’t make any kind of theme out of mortality.

Wake me up when he finished talking about the fking golden globe

Couldn't stand more than 3 minutes. The most unbearable comedian in the world in the last 10 years with the same fucking material over and over again. Nobody cancels you Rick. It's just you talking about it all the time. "I'm being cancelled again! You silly cunts! Ahhh by the way, I'm an atheist, and also dogs are great. Remember, it's just a joke, I don't care. Let me explain how jokes work. Hmm, god sucks. Here is a word for you, cunt." Literally the same shit every single time.

Boring and unfunny. Just a random collection of uninspired and rehashed 'jokes' and anecdotes, joylessly executed. Should have retired and ended his career on a high point.
