"A bunch of people are handed a franchise they have no real interest in to lure as many subscribers as possible to an online streaming service. The main actor from said franchise is given too much leeway and helps force the end product to vary wildly from the hopeful and thoughtful aspects we used to love. And that's how we got Shitty Game of Star Thrones with eye torture and puking and Mass Effect plotlines.. and... ..FUCK! ARGH! SHIT! FUCK!!!" [Me, throwing a tantrum in a nursing home in 2066]

If Star Trek is a religion, Star Trek: Picard is a heresy. There is no aspiration. There is no idealism (even unmet, or through hardship). It just rakes you through the gore and booze and profanity and murder until you feel like that dude who gets his eye ripped out in episode 5. I want no part in this future.

If you have fond memories of TNG in general and Captain Picard in particular, do yourself a favor and skip this.

I don't know why I keep doing this to myself. Maybe this is what it is like to be a drug addict? I know that the used-up, dirty needle called modern Star Trek is likely to give me headaches, nausea, and even an ST:D but I keep coming back for more. Seeing Jean-Luc used to give me warm, happy feelings and a sense of hope. Having to sit through geriatric Patrick Stewart mumbling through lines and fumbling through action scene after action scene now just elevates me from nothing to anger.

About as stupidly written as you'd expect from the graduates of JJ Hack University that have Hollywood by the balls. I think they forgot that Data had close relationships with all of the bridge crew EXCEPT Picard. It's hilarious to think that Picard calls him his "dear friend" and he's going to gallivant back into space to chase some girl he doesn't know. Why is CBS so against hiring actual sci-fi authors and writers?!?!!!

The dialogue and plot are just terribly terribly written. It's like the CW presents Star Trek. Consistently amateurish dialogue like "but that's impossible!" It's clear that the show underwent massive reshoots. Most of the elements introduced in the first 3 episodes are completely abandoned. Reshoots are especially noticeable on the finale where a macguffin saves the characters from a costly CGI climax. It's just a soap opera set in space without a hint of thought provoking science fiction.

Only two episodes in, so very subject to change, but so far it definitely feels a LOT different than you're normal Star Trek. It looks great, Stewart is great and it's jumping right into a massive story. Definitely a welcome departure from "we are at X planet with X species and X existential issues, solved by X techno babble. Worth a look.

If you stopped watching after the first episode(s), I understand, but, you made a mistake. Starting around "Stardust City Rag", the first season of "Picard" grows into a worthy successor to the greatest Sci-Fi series of all-time, even if its highest moments don't sniff the same quality or depth of storytelling as its parent show. It's TNG for a modern audience, and given that actual TNG would be lost on that audience, I'll certainly take this, though I understand if you're divided on the finale.

Another instance of “woke” culture taking out their grievances against “the patriarchy” by ridiculing & denigrating dignified altruistic & egalitarian heroes in some inflated self-righteous crusade against easy sympathetic targets. Disgusting.

Judged on S1 and S2 this would be a terrible review (I might score it as low as a 30) but they kinda brought me back on board with season 3 even though it also falls apart in the last couple episodes but nowhere near the dogbombs the first couple seasons were serving up.

Strangely enough, I think I enjoy Discovery and Picard roughly the same amount, for different reasons. I like the more modern style of Discovery sometimes, but I also like the more dramatic style of Picard at other times. I think both styles of Trek can work well, although I'd say neither of these shows represent the best of those styles either.

I genuinely enjoyed watching S01 of Picard, despite some questionable creative choices in both plot and characters. Gone are the days of episodic exploration, replaced by the grimdark urgency and high stakes that feel like both a sequel and course correction to Nemesis. It looks great and I enjoyed Picard's optimism and elitism being questioned at every turn by a less fortunate galaxy, which becomes the main theme of the series.

Full of problems, particularly throughout S1 and S2, not that I didn’t enjoy both seasons albeit with significant reservations. S3 is a different beast altogether though and had me fully Trek Erect! Disposable characters are jettisoned, ship design is glorious and it’s a better TNG send-off than any Trekkie ever thought we’d get; with some the finest Trek episodes since DS9. Worth sticking with if you’re very patient. S1: 70, S2: 64, S3: 90.

Didn't care about "Discovery" and don't like "Picard". No humour, each season is a loooong drawn out story I don't care about. Also, Patrick Stewart apparently is now too old to perform, he's a frail old actor now, not a star traveling adventurer. Put him out to pasture. Stopped paying attention a few episodes into season 1.

A beautiful space epic that takes time to fully divulge the true nature of the plot and why this adventure is absolutely necessary for the cannon of the universe. Sir Patrick Stewart steps back in with complete ease and the rest of the familiar faces a long with the newcomers bring this story to life in a way that both pays tribute to the past and forges a new future among this vast universe. Such a great series.

[through season 3] Season 1 is mediocre at best, and out of place with the character's history. Season 2 is an utter disaster to the point of almost being unwatchable. Season 3 is pretty good.

Season 1 and 2 are garbage in every area except acting and production. Utterly disrespectful seasons. Season 3 is very good, and one of the biggest jumps in quality of a season in any show. It's the antithesis of previous seasons, and a must watch for any Star Trek fan. Previous seasons aren't essential for understanding the third, but it would clear up some things, plus it's worth the slog through them to reach the catharsis that is the third season, which mostly feels like a clean slate.

(S1) As someone who grew up on TNG, was shaped by it while understanding its flaws, and had problems with recent Treks, I enjoyed this tremendously. Sir Patrick is sharper than ever, and comes with a cast of strong actors playing strong characters. The plot starts as typical prestige TV but blossoms into full Trek literature of ethics, with the Federation put to the test. In a few places, the themes don't quite come thru to the end, but ultimately, it's a wonderful, worthy piece of storytelling.

This review is based solely on Season 3, which I skipped directly to because of how much better it supposedly is. Really enjoyable stuff here, with great fan service, and shockingly good CGI that surpasses many modern blockbusters. I liked the newly added characters, and there’s some clever action scenes here and there. It definitely would’ve hit harder if I grew up with TNG, but I still appreciate it nonetheless.

Almost escapes the gravitational force of its mawkish self-referentiality, but fails as it is caught between attempting to pay homage to the original and wishing to strike new ground...or have I just forgotten how naff the original was? S1&2 is tonally very different to S3 which at least attempts a fitting yet all-too-predictable end to the original saga

Cheap action/drama. Picard is a completely different character from in TNG. Lots of deus ex machina. Season 1 ends with an out-of-nowhere deathist message.

Season 1: 6/10 - Okay, felt like it was going nowhere most of the time. Season 2: 4/10 - Bad, forgets many important moments of TNG. Season 3: 9/10 - Fantastic, almost worth the first two season just to get to this. Excellent send off to the TNG cast. If you cared about these characters, you might just cry.

This one is just terrible, idk why I watched 2 seasons. beyond talking about the trekkiness of it, the plot is always stalling in horrible ways, the relationships between characters are stated, not shown forming, and it doesn't really have that much to say. It just feels completely void of anything challenging, curios, engaging or empathetic.

Star Trek fans will probably love this and it's also a good entry point for those who have never seen any Star Trek show before. The story is specifically written to highlight Captain Picard's personality flaws and qualities. The character is absolutely given justice in this sequel. However, it's a lot grimmer than any previous Star Trek title which is probably due to going with the present trends in television. Old trekkies might miss the positivistic view about mankind's future.

[s1 & s2] Beyond the proper nouns and cheap references, there's nothing about this show that feels like Star Trek. It feels insulting to call this Star Trek and to think that a thin skin of nostalgia (not even well executed) is all that fans want. The concept of the show itself is flawed—I do not want a Great Man narrative from Star Trek (not that it achieves that anyway). Star Trek aside, it doesn't even do basic TV things well *at all.* It's not even a serviceable or mediocre generic sci-fi!!

Picard was a refreshing new window into the TNG universe. With many references and returning characters that even very casual Trekkies such as myself can still follow and catch. While off to a bit of a slow start, it turned into a beautiful adventure quickly with an inventive ending that leaves one hoping for more after the first season. Let's hope that if more is to come that it will be up to par.
