From the first episodes you'd think it's some Harry Potter for teenagers kind of show, but as it goes on it just keeps breaking more and more rules of the genre and gets really entertaining. The cast is great and makes the show, the writing is sometimes bad but mostly pretty good, and the ending - while rushed - is actually decently satisfying. I didn't want to like this show, but it grew really fast on me, and now here I am super sad that it's over. At least it was great while it lasted.

This show is a textbook example of how to make a young adult fantasy show. It's pretty cheesy at times and irrationally emotional at others, but that works within the genre.

TV: Witty and inventive take on the dark side of magic (the numerous content warnings aren't messing around). Tone shifts around a lot from droll humour to romance beats, with frequent horny interludes, feeling much like a live-action fanservice anime, which is possibly the easiest way to appreciate it. Really finds its voice towards the end of season one with a string of intense and exciting episodes. Hoping with a little trepidation that it can keep all the narrative plates spinning. | S1: 71

Harry potter for adults. Love it

Boring as a horse.

Following the modern trend of gritty and grimdark, The Magicians is Lev Grossman's response to Harry Potter and Narnia. SyFy's adaptation delivers on the more adult themes with a happy helping of cursing (of all kinds), sex, and exploration of nihilism and mental health. The cast and characters are interesting and diverse, without pushing a social agenda at the expense of story. Funny and engaging, I definitely recommend watching it.

Started out ok, then the first season took a nosedive into sexified angstfull teenage crap. Luckily the first season last episodes pulled of an epic recovery with a mix of gritty fantasy and pure over the top fun. Only goes up from there

Surprisingly entertaining. I was dubious going in that it would just be some YA crap, or a shitty Harry Potter, but the characters are their own, and interesting. Promising start.

I had a blast with the first season of this. It's basically just Harry Potter except with college-aged kids, in America, and with way more swearing and sex, but that actually turns out to be pretty fuckin' fun. In fact if say I liked it more than any of the actual Harry Potter movies. Absolutely watching season 2.
