Stopped watching after season 1. It's just Aaron Sorkin's liberal jerkoff fantasy that a midwest conservative from a 1 street town who really isn't that conservative but is a big second amendment supporter would completely change his opinion based on meeting one lady with a pistol in her purse and a concealed carry permit. That lack of making sense typifies the show. Tries to present the most biased opinions as unbiased and it gets annoying.

Everything about this show is saccharine and wrought with self-importance. Jeff Daniels could read my entire order for Taco Bell and make it sound like a rousing, life-affirming sermon rather than a delicious death wish, I get it. This show seemed so obsessed with fiery monologue, sweeping romance, and tracking shots set to cloying orchestral cues that it lost sight of its many shortcomings and came off as tone deaf and banal. The poster even has Daniels aping The Thinker, like fuck off, god.

Does a great impression of an amazing prestige show until you think about literally any part of it for literally any amunt of time

My grandfather's chain emails came to life, but with Marine Todd recast as Jeff Daniels and with lower quality writing.

I really enjoyed The Newsroom for its quippy writing, strong cast, and idealistic plotlines. The 1st season delivers the strongest plot, with its notions of how the news should be produced and some truly great dramatic moments (reporting on Gabby Giffords' shooting paired to Coldplay's Fix You). The entire cast is great, but Sadoski's dynamic with both Daniels and Munn particularly stood out.

I don't give a shit about news and politics. I don't even know who is the president.

Really it's just the worst. All the annoying parts of the West Wing with its sanctimonious liberal benefit-of-hindsight pulpit preaching are condensed into this appalling black hole of snark, the only people who would like it probably religiously watch cable news channel debates and/or Bill Maher.

Aaron Sorkin is a brilliant writer, and this show starts off strong. Unfortunately, I feel like it didn't really know what to do with the format in later seasons so they don't work as well, but the dialogue is always fascinating throughout the entire series.

Moments of brilliance but too often it wallows in secondary story lines and romance. Kudos to attempting to portray both sides of the story as often as possible.

The acting is good, the absurdity is rather enjoyable, but the politics is awful. Dude thinks liberal journalism can change the world, lmfao. Systematic oppression does not exist in his mind. Individual brilliance can tackle everything.

W4E2P2S1V1M1A2R3. I have tried to re-watch some episodes and the second time I noticed all the soap-boxing and overacting that most people complain of. But I was riveted on my first watch, and still love the whole concept of spinning real life events in an alternate universe just months after they happened.

Although the whole exercise feels a bit naïve now--it presupposes a more civilized world so remote one wonders if it ever existed (it did)--this series is what made me an Aaron Sorkin fanatic. Nobody writes like him these days. Okay, the secondary story lines take over a bit too much and he perhaps gets a bit preachy (in my case he's preaching to the choir)... big deal. It has more compelling moments per square inch than any TV show I can think of.

I know that we good TV snobs are supposed to eschew network and think it's all about cable these days, but I genuinely think Sorkin's voice is better suited for the 22-episodes-a-year, 42-minutes-an-episode, broken-up-into-act-breaks style. The West Wing vs. The Newsroom? C'mon. No contest.

Even Sorkin is human. And this is his weakest show by far.

Despite a first season that doesn't have enough going on to be wholly compelling, The Newsroom is still a showcase for Aaron Sorkin's ability to write incredibly well for the small screen. The second and third seasons raise the stakes a lot and flesh out the show quite a bit. If you don't like Aaron Sorkin's political stances, you won't like this. If you can tolerate it, however, you'll get a solid drama with a nice perspective and Jeff Daniels at the top of his game, which is truly incredible.

Really, really enjoyed this series - I want more episodes about these characters! The 'news is super important' vibe is a little too thick and sappy, but worth bearing.

Quick paced dialogue and even quicker flowing social commentary the Newsroom is dynamic because of the cast of zany individuals and the use of social commentary. It struck a chord with me from minute one and definitely ended much too soon with all the polictical turmoil currently unfolding in the US. That being said the run it had was phenomenal and I appreciate that quite a bit in TV because we have seen it all too often where a show does not get a chance at a proper run.

One of the greatest written and most thought provoking TV series of all time. Sorkin's scripts are all bursting with fast paced, intelligent and hilarious dialogue. Jeff Daniels give the performance of a lifetime.
