The Shannara Chronicles

The potential is there, but sadly there are some big problems as well. Although it looks like they've put much effort in to this and there is a certain production value, the show suffers from wooden acting from some of the cast, at times really horrid dialogue and just weird plot holes. That being said, the story is somewhat interesting and with some tweaks, it can become really engaging. Sadly I haven't read the source material and can't comment on how much the show is being faithful to it.

Buffy meets Game of Thrones equals a guilty pleasure for me, even though some of the acting is brutal.

It looks pretty but the dialog and acting is awful.

Didn't make it through first season.

The Shannara Chronicles is aesthetically gorgeous blend of high fantasy in a post-apocalyptic world. Unfortunately, the acting and writing is a little on the weak side. That said, there are a plenty of interesting ideas and the fast pace helps make the show more than just a guilty pleasure.

Poor man's Lord of the Rings, essentially.

A series like Reign makes you constantly ask "why didn't they just make a fantasy world?" This answers the question. For all its trying to be different and edgy, it is deeply traditional fantasy and by traditional I mean stuffed with fantasy clichés and when it run out of those, it pilfers from other, better movies. Such a shame that when a fantasy series really tried to do well in terms of diversity, it had to be this one.
