Oops, Disney did it again.

Willow is one of my favorite movies from my childhood. This is a "wannabe nostalgia series but sorry we have to catch young audience". The result is offensive for both generations. The portrayal they made of characters AND the storyline brings me to think that whoever wrote the script assumes that, if I watch this, I must be a low-profile adult with no expectations or any artistic value, and teens must be an idiotic mass of self-indulgent errands to be charmed. The world is better than this.

Utterly puzzling show: so much potential (e.g. cool world building, many of the original actors signing up), and it gets so aggresively fumbled by the showrunners. There's this feeling of 'Going on an adventure!' where you don't know where it's going to go, and that's super cool. Add in the cool visuals for a nice stoner watch (it gets a lot better after ep 1). Then they slap you in the face with useless teen drama, and the cringiest dialogue and acting ever seen in this genre's budget segment.

The first episode was rough, very rough. But by the end it felt like a genuine adventure fantasy that kept my interest more than it's 80 million per episode competitor rings of power. The characters sometimes suffer from "an older person is writing how they think gen Z acts" syndrome, but they tone that stuff down by the end. Also there is some jarring costume design choices throughout the series. Generally I liked the costumes, but having people in a fantasy world appear with denim is weird.

I really wanted to like it despite overall bad ratings because I figured those were some sort of alt-right (read: neo-Nazi) bullshit, but after watching the first three episodes, I must agree, it sucks, the script is utterly abysmal. The whole show is trope after trope, worn-out lead characters making idiotic decisions for the sake of being assholes, interesting characters popping in then going nowhere and dying.. What's the point? Not in watching Willow, obviously.

Fans have been waiting more than 30 years for the sequel. They hadn't needed to. Disney is trying to breathe new life into the universe with a series that, unfortunately, limits any approach to escapism, magic and is ceaselessly predictable. Show cancelled after only one season.

Really upset that this show got canceled. I watched the movie right before the show and while I wasn't that much of a fan of the movie, I saw the potential, and the show did pretty much exactly what I would have wanted it to do. Following the prophecy set up in the movie, it clearly was designed to be a 3 season show, and got cut short, with an incomplete story. Brilliant visuals, and great lore, with a fun style. Probably too expensive with not enough people watching.

Some decent moments and more than a few bad ones. Cut the forest episode out entirely.

Watched the first two episodes and I'm out.
