Passionate, emotional horror about two girls in love who, because of suffocating religious oppression, descend into madness and Satanism. What atmosphere! Its like a low budget Peter Greenaway with all the painterly medieval imagery. Tina Romero is mesmerizing as the title character. Criminally underrated.

Sustains a genuinely rotten atmosphere and only breaks it off when it feels like it just needs to go apeshit for a couple of minutes for no apparent reason. It's indefensible, over the top exploitation all the way and it even stars a teenage girl with an accent that sounds very close to Werner Herzog's. I apologize for making you all cum like that without warning.

I fell off the crazy train and lost track about halfway though, though it's all entertaining and I'm probably missing a lot of messaging. I preferred the mystery portions to the insanity. Tina Romero was captivating as the titular Alucarda. Having a male gypsy/witch figure was a nice twist. Fav scene: the girls renouncing God and devoting themselves to Satan in class.

A girl in the 1860's is sent to an orphanage run by nuns, where she befriends a girl named Alucarda and the two make a pact with the Devil that threatens to destroy the holy order. A fun Mexican exploitation flick with self flagellating nuns, torture, exorcisms, nudity, evil incantations and endless scenes of hysterical women screaming. Starts slowly but builds to an insane climactic display of Satanic pyrokinesis.

A diamond in the rough. It's definitely a low-budget exploitation film. However, there is a very clear artistic vision behind it and that definitely comes across. Partly because of the engaging and evocative imagery and partly because of the over-the-top yet enchanting acting, this film is able to sustain a uniquely dreamy and hellish atmosphere throughout its entire length. It's a great watch.

"Alucarda" made me feel like natural day light is disgusting for about two weeks. intensive, sickening delightful claustrophobia. And much more than just an entertaining exploitation flick.

Young girl arrives at a convent. “Would you like to see my box of secret things?” 10 minutes later she’s in a satanic sapphic blood-rite orgy. One could complain about plotting but that may be historically accurate. A truly wild trip - the goat-man/doctor/gypsy is played by the lead in Bunuel’s Simon of the Desert and the last 30 minutes is non-stop screaming and flamethrowers. No complaints. My new cinematic Holy Grail is a decent print of this cursed film.

There is screaming, and then some more screaming and then more screaming. And then it ends.

If you know what to expect coming into Alucarda, it's not that bad. It's a ridiculous piece of exploitation cinema about Christians vs. Satan and demonic possession, with ridiculously hammy acting, but by the genre's standards it is not entirely uninspired. You can tell that an effort was made to create some evocative imagery on a low budget, and whereas in other like-minded cinema the lesbianism is more decorative, here it is interestingly a central topic.

2021'de #IzlediğimFilmler : 241. Alucarda (1978) Düşük bütçesine rağmen oldukça etkileyici bir korku hikayesi. Kurduğu düşsel atmosfer ve cehennem hissi ile çok çok beğendim.

The hunch backed character from the woods was mystical in a way that really weirded me out. The film seemed like a good representation of 70's horror. It was over the top in many ways, which I appreciated for the most part, but other times found off putting.

There's shoddy writing and extreme overacting, but it's so over the top that it becomes a pretty entertaining exploitation film.

"Witches are BAD because they strip naked and perform ecstatic blood rituals." "Alright, Father, what's the Church's solution?" "Strip them naked and perform ecstatic blood rituals!" One of those 70s movies where there's no line between exploitation and genuine transgression. Everything heightened, full of secret whispers and quote-unquote hysterical screams, slathered in blood and boobs and fire and occult imagery. But whatever it does, it does so intensely that it's a hell of a ride.
