Custody

Very skillfully made, the mostly psychological domestic terror is palpable and downright awful to witness. There's not that much more to get from this movie other than that 'thrill' which would land it on a solid 70 but i'm sticking to my rules: no music is always +5

Simmering study of a contentious divorce and accompanying domestic violence is at its best in the early stages, ambiguously teasing the nature of the couple's relationship, and allowing the viewer to 'fill in the gaps' as new information comes to light. Unfortunately leads to a disturbing climax that troublingly plays its quite serious subject matter as a horror/suspense centrepiece; it's effectively done, but veers towards exploitation. Terrific performances from Mother, Father and Son though.

Would have liked to see justice served (i.e. the aftermath)

Really really capturing and convincing story. The soundscape, the atmosphere takes you into the tension of this movie. The lead actor, Denis Ménochet, is as great as he can get, puts a wonderful performance.

The father wasn't menacing enough to make the last scene work, nor it was relatable enough to make the rest of the movie work. The party scene was fine though.

A great, convincing story from familiar territory : a broken family and the aftermath of a bitter custody battle. Denis Menochet as the father is as good as he gets : brooding, tough, wounded, scary, relentless and yet always human.

"Always use condoms."

Tense and realistic, Custody is a family drama filled with sorrow. The characters tiptoe around each other with some very convincing suspense until a powder keg conclusion. Well acted.
