Some real gems of information on classic horror unfortunately buried under gender agenda and blatant self-promotion. Scream queens trying to appear "intellectual" with a straight face.

Imagine one of those VH1 'I Love the...' shows, but less-structured and only about 80s horror films. If you're already in-tune with those movies, you aren't going to get much out of this because everything here is basically omnibook. If you're new, however, this is a pretty good viewing guide. The talking heads are also fine, except for that guy who is basically reading synopses, with Tom Atkins and Keith David being my favorites (but then, I could say that about anything they appear in).

I love horror documentaries, and this is a great one to get you in the mood for Halloween. A long watch at nearly 4.5 hours but it also remains pretty surface-level considering the length. Most of the talking head choices are good but there are also a couple of questionable picks in the mix, especially James A. Janisse who had me wanting to fast forward every time he came on screen. While everyone else is speaking earnestly and off the cuff, he's the only one reading off canned responses

It amazes me how many times die-hard horror fans can be fed the same information time and time again and they call the documentary that delivers this information "a masterpiece". In Search of Darkness is not a masterpiece. Not even close. There is very little in the way of new information about the majority of the films covered here. Why? Because they cover the exact same films that have been talked to death over the years. I hated this film and the scumbag director who loves scamming peo

Total fluff piece and how can it not be when you’re doing an entire decade under five hours, you can do five hours of me dissecting the nuances of Tom Atkins moustaches throughout his horror oeuvre. Great clips and some really bad talking heads (who gives a shit what James Rolfe thinks about the making of whatever when you have the people who were actually involved. Barbara Crampton worlds hottest grandma.

With it's 4h30 min lenght it's safe to say : this movie has no structure. It's clips of trailers from eighties slasher films followed by a talking head giving at most a 30 second sound bite followed by another trailer and so on and so on. So if you like eighties horror movies and don't mind the superficial treatment - I would say go for it.

Really enjoyed the range of movies and depth they took on the selected ones. Just a lot of fun and a ton of content.

A fun documentary which entertained while also leaving me thinking about all the movies that weren't talked about.
