Keepers

Keepers was labelled The Vanishing on my streaming service and both titles describe it aptly. Here's some other titles that would work: Murderers, Rash Decision Makers, Stupid Dum-Dums, Inner-Turmoil - Outer Conflict, Interesting Enough to Grab You But Not Brave Enough to Wow You, Okayly, FasciNOTting. You get the idea.

A strong first half is overshadowed by a weaker second in which character motivations become diffuse and unconvincing.

THE LIGHTHOUSE, now with 100% less mermaid sex!

Low-key three hander is not entirely successful, with a meandering third act dissipating the considerable tension from the early stages, but the three leads are so solid and compelling (with Mullan exceptional) that you can forgive most of the missteps. Nyholm is at his best creating the opressive, inhospitable atmosphere of the island, even as the location itself has a primal, savage beauty about it.

Great acting by Mullan & Butler in particular. As many have stated the first half is stronger than the second, but it's still recommended for a one time viewing. Very slow in parts deliberately, if you can stay on board you'll be rewarded...7.1

Also called "The Vanishing". It's similar to The Lighthouse, but not quite as dark. Excellent acting and compelling story, in a bleak and unusual setting.

The film's script could have gone a few better ways - the setting was perfect! But throughout the story it follows the common places and situations that we've seen in so many other movies.

Almost too slow paced for its own good, it's nonetheless very well acted and somewhat chilling.

I like lighthouses both symbolically and practically. I do not particularly like Gerard Butler symbolically or practically.
