You don't really care about any of the characters and the story gets boring in the end.

This is one of those movies I cannot understand for who and why it's been done. It's successfully done, I guess, beacuse I am very disguisted with it from my guts. It's a story of low-lifes who ends up from violent football hooliganism to the underground gangs of drugs and beatings and stealings. The "happy ending" does not make any better anymore, since you just want the entire movie to stop. Language is difficult to follow and numerous subplots make movie scattered.

I saw this because it was one of the few DVDs at a cabin I recently stayed in, and it was far better than it has any right to be. Although seemingly cheap and cinematographically unimpressive, it exudes the right sort of confidence in acting, dialogue, and directing for a film about British football hooligans turned gangsters -- that is to say, there's plenty of OTT violence, brawls, swearing, and paranoia, so any comparisons to Goodfellas would be apt.

I loved this psycho piece of stylistic true story. There is a raw, animalistic sincerity to it and just because it does not try to make its bully characters likable; it made me connect with people which I would normally hate in real-life. I love the construction of the story, the use of era music, the realism in the fighting scenes (I don't know how they pulled it off, they were unreal). Even Turkish mafia was realistic (although I didn't understand a word they said, that must be Essex Turkish:)

Even after the immediate hit of irritating "He fackin' magged me off so I 'it the cant" Cockney/Essex vernacular, I still had hope the true story element would mask the annoyance and give that extra edge to ROTF. I was wrong. Gilbey fails to squeeze decades of loosely-connected events into one story, with too many characters and jumps in the timeline for you to really get into any of it. Dull and forgettable, the best way to describe this would be as a condensed, crappy Underbelly.

It's what you expect, incredibly violent and fun. But the last third really is just pulled from nowhere to make all the violence seem to mean something

Take away the mindless violence and the gratuitous swearing and what you you got left? A man wearing a truly preposterous wig! Must be one of the worst films I have ever seen.

Great stuff. I would have rated it higher if I could've understood a little more of whatever the hell they said.

Feels like there is two movies here. The first 30-40 minutes being very entertaining while the rest of the movie is pointless and boring. Great action scenes though through out it all.

I love english gangster-movies , and this one has a lot of good aspects ( action , gruesome scene's ) but it isn't that smart/inteligent like for example Layer Cake or Snatch. I liked it , but liked to see more of Carlon Leach towards the end of the movie.

Football hooligans turn Goodfellas. The rave scene was a much appreciated laugh in the midst of all the violence.
