This movie relies on a supernatural gimmick to distinguish the story. It tries to be raw and gritty. The circumstances and actions felt manufactured. Performances were OK, but the production quality especially the camera work and effects were not terrific. The ending was lame.

A clever take on the tired "smart inner-city youth has to turn down scholarship to support family, eventually turning to crime to make ends meet, then getting in real trouble when he tries to get out" story. Mainly because it involves electromagnets.

It manages to combine hip-hop hood films and comic books to assemble an uninspired picture about being a drug dealer and superhero. The main problem is it is poorly cast. Especially a lead who butchers each line of dialogue--making you unable to empathize with his love of science, street magic, drug dealing, and countless stupid decisions. Lastly, the sci-fi and conflict come in too late; which means you follow this boring kid. Dope did a similar story for better results. A major disappointment.

Sleight doesn't reach the heights of Blumhouse's best productions, and it's bound to polarize a good percentage of its viewers over many plotholes, but the acting, visual elements, and storylines are strong enough to make this a compelling, decent watch.

An interesting premise driven by a good performance by Lattimore, somewhat let down by poor writing and acting by the supporting characters.

At last, a super-hero movie I can get behind. Some issues with the character development and pacing, but still good enough to be well worth a watch.

I thought this was a serious, fairly well made movie, until the totally dumb/irrational ending.

Odd genre mashup results in a disorienting case of tonal whiplash, as if MOONLIGHT had been invaded by a Marvel origin story – both “halves” are interesting in their own right, but they make for a lumpy combination, especially when the focal conflict remains unfocused until the final act before being wrapped up with undue haste (especially the kidnapping). Intriguingly enigmatic work from Latimore, and some great sinister work from Hill, are stand-outs in an otherwise hit-and-miss cast.

Pretty enjoyable low budget flick I waited years before finally watching. Ending felt rushed; however. Good performance by Latimore. 6.5

It's weird you can make a superhero film and not have it cost a billion dollars?!

Good work from a debut. There's nothing exceptional here and it certainly doesn't avoid clichés, but it's a competent origin story. Some of the acting can be a little hammy, and it doesn't go anywhere that exciting, but it tells a gritty tale of a kid trying to do what's right. I also like magicians, so the fact he is one of them helps me enjoy it a little more. This doesn't redefine the superhero genre, but it's a pretty good example of it if you want to see something that isn't DCEU or MCU.
