The ending is so not garbage. It doesn't leave much to be desired. The payoff is not underwhelming.

I knew I was going to like this based on all the complaints about the ending, and I was right.
Don't go into this expecting some clean-cut preachy bullshit on the subject, it's not here. Just sit back and watch as things unfold.

20 Juliol 2024 - Em va agradar la frontera incerta entre realitat i ficció, el ritme, la relació entre ells, l'estètica sense por.

A character study on a person who's going through tough times but I thought the pacing was off most of the time

It seems like a contradiction that this film can feel so immediate and life-like, yet also come across as unreal. On top of the main actors clearly looking older than teens (or even their actual ages), they also act much more like college students (and have the film taste of them too). This film comes from an earnest place of guerilla filmmaking that's fun to observe, and the acting is enjoyable, but misguided, and the development of this "teen" is also contemporary, but unbelievable.

A delightful amount of stupidity and earnestness. When tinfoil by Limblifter starts blasting while theyre planning their “shooting” is just blissfully Canadian.

An inspiring indie movie that does a lot with its limited budget and resources. The characters feel genuine in their awkward teenage banter.

Well look at that, a found footage film that is actually pretty good. Definitely worth a watch.

What's great about this found footage flick (a genre which many have an aversion to but which I tend to really like) is that it gets the main characters and the dynamics between them so right. And I always appreciate when a director can achieve something great on a limited budget.

Shows a love of film that's great to watch as an audience member. It can be somewhat hard to believe the documentary film making style at some points, but this is addressed. The ending leaves much to be desired but the entire build up was great. I'm left wondering if it would be in bad taste to wear a "we're only here for the bad guys" shirt.

Strange case of a movie that's kinda hard to pin down: craft-wise it's flawed to a fault, but that's most likely deliberate. The content, however, speaks volumes to a certain audience and will undoubtedly cause conversations in those circles for a while.

Ending is so garbage it's not worth the time however.

THE DIRTIES doesn't say anything interesting about bullying or even portray it particularly effectively, but it has different concerns... [Full review]

Based off the hype & reviews I heard for this, it fell flat. Maybe I was expecting too much, but afterwards I was left saying, "Really, that's it. That's the movie?"

Not quite the classic Kevin Smith pimps it as, but still great. I can't help but feel there's heavy Tarantino influence here, which is not weird considering Matt gets called Tarantino in it. The Dirties film they filmed for class was wonderful. The movie as a whole tackles its subject with finesse and the obsession with movies is a nice touch. You can feel for these people, I enjoy the ending and the "we're only here for the bad guy" shirt... because it's oddly fitting.

The Dirties is a controversial but important look at how damaging bullying is and how quickly it can escalate. The characters are relatable, and anyone who has ever found themselves outside of social norms is sure to connect to their struggles. The movies biggest success is how it builds tension as it examines how violence spreads as opposed to lamenting the aftermath of a tragedy.
