Natalie Portman and Lisa Kudrow deliver fine performances in The Other Woman, but they're muted by Don Roos' clumsy direction and cluttered, melodramatic script.

"As good as it is at times, The Other Woman never nears greatness; it lacks the mettle and focus to push beyond well-groomed melodrama." - Jesse Cataldo

Right now, Portman commands the cineplexes as surrogate for misguided, self-pitying filmmakers.

The Other Woman isn't a terrible film, but it's undone by the fact that it tries to cram far too much into its runtime. There's too much going on for us to actually absorb anything from the multitude of subplots. The drama isn't bad, and it was nice to see an annoying child in a movie actually treated that way by the characters, but the film felt too rushed by the end. Impulsive and often too-sad-for-their-own-good characters ultimately left the film feeling too cold to warrant a watch.

This drama works because of Natalie Portman's excellent performance. The script is good and the rest of the cast also does a good job. Overall I would recommend this film.

Natalie Portman may have the black swan and the white swan down, but she's still working on the gray.

This movie feels insincere. Too bad, because the performances from all the actors were fairly good. I hate to rate this movie poorly, but the story and script left me wanting. Thankfully, there where a few memorable lines that made the movie worth watching, but you have to ignore a lot of stupidity to find the parts that feels genuine. The final ending felt like a last ditch effort to save the movie because by then it was feeling very broken and stupid.

This film is good at hiding its crushing secret but it's not revealed at an opportune moment. I don't think there would have been an opportune moment as this film is devoid of drama. The only one acting at a believable pitch is Lisa Kudrow. Portman breaks down a couple times on cue but otherwise I got never got a sense that she belonged in this character. Co-star Lauren Ambrose probably should have gotten the lead on this; then I might have felt something. The retitling is also unfortunate.

The story of a a difficult relationship so real, so boring, it's got to be as difficult to watch as it was to live. I love- I am obsessed with Natalie Portman, but not even Natalie can save this film!
