To all those people who are against getting dirty and sick, who claims it will make you lose your vוtlity, and eventually die - have you seen John Waters? Embrace your jealousy, and maybe it will make you a little bit trashier, which is just the same as saying - alive.

Waters wit and humour makes it easy to be swept along as he relates snippets of his cinematic journey. From the little I've seen of his films I'm rather convinced listening to him talk about films is preferable to watching them (i.e. the Kevin Smith syndrome).

The lovable Pope of Trash, who has been accumulating and cultivating these stories for years, is as relaxed and offhand as any comic or soliloquist you're liable to see and can be one of the cushiest and most pleasant ways of killing off 90 minutes of your life.

Loved it. I saw it in LA where John Waters did a Q and A afterward. It was great.

Sit back and watch some industry tales & personal insights from the infamous Waters. I did enjoy the set design, ie John emerging from a confessional before diving into his retrospective. Will have to explore his back catalogue further..

What sets Waters apart from other "shock" directors is how funny he is. Anyone who's listened to one of his commentaries knows what an excellent speaker he is, and this monologue performance does not disappoint. There are a couple of points where he slips into more of a stand-up comedian mode, which doesn't suit him, but I'm nitpicking. In this lecture he offers his thoughts on his career as well as assorted other topics like Baltimore, censorship and youth. Definitely worthwhile for fans.

"This Filthy World, recorded over two nights at New York City's Harry De Jur Playhouse, is revealing, allowing the filmmaker to illuminate the evolution of his illustriously dirty career." - Ed Gonzalez

Waters is charismatic, a skilled speaker, and often very funny, bringing to light a world we all know exists but don't discuss in polite company.

Certainly not for everyone, but probably essential for John Waters fans. It's standup-ish and funny, but he mostly speaks in anecdotes about himself and his cinema, his influences and views, so you get a good peek into the brain of the man who, like no other, has crafted "bad taste" into a connoisseur's delicacy.
