A postmodern Hammer vampire movie? Focused on a vengeance feud between a village & a group of vampires immune to sunlight, this paints humans-turned-to-vamps as happy & sexually fulfilled & humans as rash & ruthless. It's definitely different but these vamps kill kids, so..? Still: it's beautifully shot & does bats better than any other Hammer movie. Unfortunately it fails to distinguish its many supporting characters (several shapeshift) enough & it becomes hard to tell who is doing what.

Gothic Hammer horror flick from the 70's about townsfolk who destroy the local vampiric Count, but years later during a plague, a traveling circus of performing vampires arrives to kill the villagers and resurrect him. A fun and goofy bloodsucker with some lovely young British ladies and lots of red paint. It tries to play up a romance angle which basically consists of a creepy vampire staring at hot chicks. Also features David "Darth Vader" Prowse as the circus strongman.

I never think about plot analysis and subtext when watching Hammer Horror, but this one got me going a bit. There's some subversive streak running through this one between hysterical female shrieks and lovely gore. I'd like a rewatch.

I really enjoyed this one. It's not a masterpiece or anything, but it has a lot of really cool visual tricks and the story of the vampire curse and the plague is a fun idea. The circus's slightly surreal feel works well also.

Brutal and crosses the line a lot. Also yey for heroes named Anton and beheading by crossbow.

Better than most vampire films of the time with some interesting deaths. There is also a fairly large body count.

Though Vampire Circus isn't an outstanding film, it is still a good film. You'll find all the Hammer trademarks, such as the blood that is way to red, nice costumes, and beautiful sets. If you find that many of Hammer's horror movies are enjoyable, I'm sure you'll find something to like in this movie.

Decent vampire film from Hammer. The story and a lot of the scenes and elements work great but the vampires themselves left a lot to be desired. The vampires for the most part are under whelming and pathetic. The twins were creepy and interesting and the transforming panther parts were really well done. Overall this is slightly above average.

Barring some inadequate FX work, this emerges as one of the best Hammer horrors of the 70s. Imaginative and fairly shocking, with suggestions of pedophilia and bestiality thrown into the mix. Very well acted.

Darkflix TV.

Another early 70s Hammer vampire movie featuring a fair amount of exposed female flesh but it rises above simple titillation with a solid plot about a travelling circus of vampires fulfilling the blood curse of one of their staked brethren to return him to un-life. On top of the solid plot we have some great individual characterisations, clever use of fresh vampiric ideas and some good gory kills too; one of the most entertaining vampire movies out there.

Brings back fond memories of going to the circus when I was a kid. I remember there was this chick in tiger-stripe body paint that made out with this member of Adam Ants backup band, all while Darth Vader threw midgets at me. Oh wait, that was my senior prom. Never mind.
