The most impressive thing about this show is its control of the emotion it wants to give. It's hilarious if it wants to be, awe-striking if it wants to be, complicated if it wants to be. And most importantly, it is fully capable of dragging your soul through the dirt the way you never thought possible, time and time again, whenever the writers so choose.

I'm truly flabbergasted at how great this manages to be. There are a few moments sprinkled throughout the series that have gut-punched me on the same level that the best in cinema have.

Bojack homes in on and highlights the uncomfortable truths about day to day life that would usually get rubbed out of a script after draft one for being too harrowing. But the thing is that these truths are relatable & not usually explored in the depth deserved in other shows. There is the confidence to get experimental with a few eps each season which usually results the stand outs eg - the drug hallucination, underwater ep, self-loathing/depression ep, New Mexico & the bender ep to name a few.

This show gets things that most shows don't. It's a hard watch, bit brutal at times, which is unexpected for a cartoon about a horse. I could have done without most of the Todd storylines, but everything else was so human, so real... Bojack Horseman is a painting of the early 21st century society, something I'll be able to show to future people who'll ask " How did the world look and feel when you were a young adult? ". Just watch Bojack. That's it.

It only starts being great towards the end of the 1st season, so don't be disheartened by initial disappointment. BH is a recurring exploration of being a broken person, despite the main character being a cartoon horse surrounded by throwaway gags like a auto-milking cow waitress. The clash between Bojack's narcissism and self-loathing lends itself to horrifically dark situations, the best parts of the show. The underwater episode is in the running for one of the greatest of any animated series.

Who ever would've ever guessed that that weird-looking show about talking animals would end up becoming one of the funniest, cleverest, most experimental, nuanced and deeply-layered explorations of the human condition ever put on the small screen? The comedy in this is absolutely intelligent and top-notch but it also completely nails the emotional moments too, with some episodes leaving me completely sobbing by the end. Essays will be written about this show for many years, and for good reason.

Surprisingly it's in the drama that this show excels while the comedy often falls flat, is repetitive, or is a form of awkward/non-humor. I felt the comedy missed the mark more often than it hit, but the strong dramatic core of the show which caught me off guard is what kept me watching.

BoJack Horseman is an up and down ride both emotionally and quality wise. I didn't think there were any "bad" episodes, but there was a handful of forgettable ones and then the show would rope you back in with a stellar episode, like the underwater one.

Rides a really complicated line in tone between very silly and absolutely devastating. There are two or three episodes that are close to some of the best television I've ever seen. In a show that's about a cartoon horse who's a washed up sitcom actor. Let that sink in.

the comedy's pretty patchy and derivative (though improving), but i'm willing to forgive that given it's just dressing for probably the most biting and desperately sad animated comedy i've ever seen. "i only wish this was the life you'd chosen for yourself..."

(Seasons 1-2) Addicting and often disarmingly sad, with a great voice cast and a vibrant, expressive pop-art style. (Season 3) Similar to 2 but less interesting as it becomes clearer what the show's stock in trade is; underwater episode easily the highlight. (Season 4) Has become grating and condescending. I bailed less than halfway through.

I hate how good this show is. After all, it's a show featuring anthropomorphized animals and somehow it gets at the messy center of real-world relationships, the cycle of trauma, the hurts of the world and how we deal with them. Perhaps filtering raw real-life experiences through a low-brow cartoon makes it easier to see how small and petty a person can be, the absurdity of our traumas & coping mechanisms, and how our outward faces are simply the faces of brightly colored cartoon animals.

Best animated series of all time, not even exaggerating. So much feels that I had. So many emotional gut-punches in the first 2 seasons, replaced by 'full body feels' in later seasons. Oh, and effortlessly interwoven with satire on US culture and philosophy on life? How will I survive life after Bojack Horseman? I guess, like Bojack, 1 day at a time, just trying to do and be better, despite everyting.

Sadece birinci sezon için konuşuyorum devamıyla fazla vakit kaybedemem. Yine çoğu dizide olduğu gibi gereksiz abartılmış. Dizide doğru dürüst üç şey var. 1) Referanslar - 2) Cesur mesajlar - 3) Atmosfer ... Geri kalan her şey at çöpe.

I liked the concept, the animation, and the characters. It took until the end of season 1 to get good. Unfortunately towards the end it felt repetitive with Bojack's mommy issues. I don't think some of the side characters got enough attention or good enough endings. Still, the central idea of past trauma and Bojack's spiraling consequences were the highlights of this show. Fav episodes: revisiting the past with his friend the showrunner; underwater episode.

The first two seasons would have scored much higher, and the last two seasons would have scored moderately lower. What started as a solid comedy with moments of being real poignant devolved into something kinda sick and depressing. Watching this propelled me into my own mid-life crisis at the age of 37. Great opening sequence, though. I watched the opening of all 77 episodes.

Painting a portrait of a complex person with undeniably repulsive character traits while not being overly dismissive of them due to a narrative's need to idealise, at least to some extent, its protagonist is what Bojack Horseman does best. Occasionally the hybrid animal-human setting brews up some genuine humor but often the show is a bleak and unapologetic look at how bad systems amplify the unsavory traits of humans while simultaneously rewarding the individual with material benefits.

(S1-4) Some very poignant social commentary, but a hefty portion is hypocritical satire. Also I don't enjoy watching it. I honestly feel like I just want to watch all of the season finales exclusively, because a lot is put into the ends, and the rest is depressing and ZZZ. I'm not Asexual, but bonus points for the representation nonetheless. Too much beastiality

I just got done with this, so I should be careful of overrating it, but It's certainly one of the better television comedies, one that rightfully challenges the false closure and erroneous lessons taught by inferior shows (such as Horsin' Around) and provides a character (Bojack) who serves as a perfect avatar for the kind of modern narcissism that inspires us to go on Facebook and create tabloid magazines about ourselves, basking in the attention of gossip-hungry readers.

Talk about subverting expectations. It starts out like a typical animated sitcom, but soon turns into an exploration of existential and social issues that is just brimming with thought and care. It effortlessly balances the heavy subject matter with wonderfully imaginative and positively goofy humor. And then there is the artful direction. Episodes like "Fish Out Of Water", "The Old Sugarman Place", "Free Churro" or "The View From Halfway Down" stayed with me long after I've watched them.
