Not as good as the recent Gacy one, but still decent

These kinds of very well put together true crime documentaries often want to thematise the way that the media at the time became fixated on the case, what that means, what kinds of technological change were associated with that fixation, etc. Such is the case here, and it is a legitimate source of interest, but there's also a feeling that the well-put-togetherness of these programs tends to conceal that the real motive is to make a few dollars by reviving those old sensationalistic fascinations.

Bundy is a fascinating guy and there's a lot to dissect here. His level of denial is almost impressive throughout, and it's completely insane how much he was able to get away with, especially from today's vantage point.

Bundy's name deserves to be forever associated with infamy and cruelty. Still, it's hard to deny that the man did have just enough intelligence and charisma to sway public opinion about him the way he did. That being said, he was a true monster, and thankfully didn't escape for good. Seeing everyone cheering and celebrating his death brings up conflicting opinions about the death penalty and sensationalizing serial killers and the series wisely doesn't choose sides.

All these serial killer types think they're special geniuses, the media thinks they're fascinating mysteries to be understood and glorified but at the end of the day they're just selfish loons.

I assess docus on their merits rather than how interesting a subject is. This is pretty mediocre.

Fairly thorough. Markedly better than "Extremely Wicked..." in which Berlinger attempted a fictionalized telling of the events. He should stick to documentaries.

WEBRip.

Not enough tapes. But still an engrossing and disturbing doc by Berlinger.

A well made, pretty comprehensive overview of the Bundy case, moving chronologically from the first murders to his execution and giving enough detail to answer most questions (and more - I was ignorant about his two escapes). The titular tapes are in fact used pretty minimally - which would be somewhat disappointing were it not for the fact they're such poor quality when played they're almost inaudible.

A misleading title as there is actually very little actual tape heard. But if you haven't seen anything about Ted bundy before it's worth a watch.
