They tried to just suck as much money as humanly possible out of Friends by doing this show and it wasn't a bad idea, just take the best character from a hugely successful show and give him a spinoff. The writing was much more forced and the side characters were all terrible. I always pictured Drea de Matteo doing The Sopranos and then driving over to do Joey just going what the hell am I doing?

I remember my friends saying this show was going to be a hit. He was the best actor in friends this and that. I remember telling them the only reason he was funny in friends is because he had strong actors surrounding him. I told him this show will flop. Which it did. It was just so bad.

there is a universe in which Frasier was canceled after 10 episodes and this is still on the air

The ultimate textbook example of how not every successful show needs an attempt at a spin-off. I was a Friends FANATIC back in the day (watched every single episode, bought the seasons on DVD, rewatched reruns, could quote vast swaths of dialogue, etc.), and even I watched two episodes of Joey and was like "Holy shit, this is unwatchable."

Yikes. Yikes. Yikes. Friends in my opinion did not hold the cultural impact that the mass majority says it does so that definitely leaves this one on the list of completely irrelevant shows.
