Absolutely bursting with charm, with some very funny performances. To me at least, this old, tacky and ridiculously dated production captures much more of the essence and purpose of Adams classic piece of sci-fi that its more modern cinema adaptation.

This TV Series is dated but still very funny. It's much better than the recent big screen adaptation of the same material...even if one of them is an obvious fake, at least Zaphod has two heads!

suffers from limited special effects technology, but really drives home the humor style of douglas adams, and thank god he really is hilarious. it's also a more comprehensive story than the remake, and since it's such a great story that's a big plus. if this movie had been made thirty years later in this form, it would have been awesome.

Hilariously dated now, but the source material is solid gold.

Inept, dull, unfunny, corny, painful. The adjectives go on and on. I have NEVER seen something so awful attract such universal gushing praise. So many jokes adapted directly from the radio/novel could have been turned into great visual gags (film is primarily a visual medium, didn't they get the memo?) but we're stuck with the characters telling us, not showing us, what's so funny. Campy effects are the least of its problems. Marvin was okay, I guess.

A more or less successful attempt to translate great book to moving pictures

Some of the acting was rather rudimentary, but overall very enjoyable.

The TV show that's based on a radio show that inspired a book and a movie. If only the story was twice as convoluted as that. HHGG is funny, it's odd, it's dated and it's short enough that it's worth a watch. And Journey of the Sorcerer.

So campy it's almost good. Prefer this version to the new one.

First of the failing Hitchiker's adaptations, it simply isn't adaptable.

Absolutely incredible. This is visually as good as the it was to read originally. The tone and mood match the books perfectly although the style dose change, for the better.

Released as a Mini series here in Oz, there is so much to recommend, that I'll simply suggest you buy the books (except the last one)

Nowhere near the level of the radio series and the books, but quite charming at times. It's funny how Marvin is the only character who seems to work well in every incarnation of the story.

Reading the book spoiled the movie and that's my fault.

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is perfectly in keeping with the words and tone of the books. It's hilarious in way that only British TV can be. The actors all work amazingly with what they are given. Scene after scene will have you laughing you head off. That being said, it can come off as more of a series of sketches on occasion more so than a singular story.

Probably the best job possible given the budget the sci-fi hating BBC gave it at the time. This means it looks somewhat laughable in parts (Beeblebrox's head for starters). At least the religious gags were left in, unlike the film. And for those who whine its not like the book or radio show, IT WASN'T MEANT TO BE! Douglas Adams himself says so, so shut it Fanboys.

Could have been done a lot better. Great story, great humor, poor execution.
