The show's early potential for true Lynchian brilliance and social satire is ultimately abandoned in favor of the usual CGI fight scenes (cuz Marvel's gonna Marvel). I'd like to know which university gave the chick from 2 Broke Girls a Ph.D. The show's Generic Evil White Man was actually its most logical character - but, you know, down with the patriarchy and whatnot. Kathryn Hahn is the stealth MVP.

If this rating was for everything up to and including "Agatha All Along" *which is my favorite two minutes of the MCU so far*, this would be nearly perfect. Unfortunately, Marvel just had to marvelously do its thing in the climax and reduce characters to hollow pro- and antagonists rather than continue its unique tribute to the history of sitcoms and innovate in the medium of television.

Remember back in the days, when Network shows would have that one weird "just a dream"/alternate reality/musical episode? Well, Wandavision basically is *that one episode* spread out on an entire season and comes across as an almost Lynchian meta show, that (for better or worse) ultimately aligns itself with the greater MCU. Good stuff.

They are very comfortable investing a lot of time in a world they establish early on as being irrelevant. Vision is an entirely new character here with much more depth & humanity than they last established. They still have no idea how to handle either character's powers. Vision moves at the speed of light now, but moves MUCH slower in action. He can't pass humans through items but can pass items through humans. Wanda can manifest anything, but not dinner. Sometimes with a red mist sometimes not.

WandaVision is the first time I've had serious doubts about a Marvel Studios property. I've enjoyed some productions more than others but none felt terribly offensive or worse than a decent time waste. WandaVision is creepy and disturbing and not in a way that the show-runners intended. For the first time ever I was actively rooting for the people the writers coded as villains and for very justifiable reasons. I am now left wondering if Marvel hasn't actually been The Boys the entire time.

Eerily prescient - a narrative about a retreat into nostalgia, coping with tremendous loss, isolation and depression and grief - chaos, madness and sickness all slightly felt. These themes, told through its smaller scale which allowed for some surprising intimacy, is the perfect reintroduction to the MCU, and reflection of our moment. That it started out like someone saw David Lynch's Rabbits and thought, maybe we can Marvel it? all means yes, I loved it.

This show managed to single-handedly convince me never to consume another MCU product in my life. It started out so strong with a mystical, Lynch-light setting where circumstances are left to your interpretation ... until the mask comes off and the entire mystery is shamelessly exposed with the blandest of acting and writing, with no space for ambiguity. The show went from humorous, mysterious and charming to being too on the nose, poorly written, toe-curling superhero fluff by the end.

Being a fan of the Wanda character this was a huge disappointment. The first 5 episodes are devoted to recreating old sitcoms. Seriously. This might have worked if it was funny or satire, but it's not, so I reacted the same way I would to old sitcoms - no interest. The plot doesn't start moving till the last few eps & the magic ball fights are dull. The ending has more questions than answers like why can't she recreate her family again when she's more powerful than ever? A bad start for phase 4.

Well, the streaming craze might have hurt the cinema in the long run, but this series is one of its good outcomes. It is such a quirky, off the beaten path thing that, there is absolutely no chance that it will see the light of the day in the old cable TV system. It sometimes cracks under its own bizarre nature, but the production quality is great and it hits some very high notes, particularly the ending. Denning's character is a great MU creation and so is Agnesss.

[through season 1] Interesting for about 70% of the season, but takes a turns toward awful MCU militaristic blandness in the last few episodes. The sitcom constraint could have been used so much more interestingly.

I said in my Dr. Strange review I think they had lots of space to make a stranger Dr. Strange movie. They definitely took a few big steps in that direction. The show is not without problems. The bad military man is a superfluous villain nearly forgotten by the end and the final fight has magic that is distinctly lacking in cleverness which is weird considering they put effort into being clever earlier in the show. Wanda and Vision had okay emotional arcs, but the side character arcs were lacking

I feel like the marketing for this one was rather misleading. I was hoping for more of a satirical commentary on the sitcom as a cultural institution and storytelling medium. WandaVision plays with that concept for maybe three episodes and then drops it in favor of a more generic superhero storyline. It's still fine, but I was hoping for more.

Like most MCU works, rich with different elements, some amazing, some disappointing, adding up to a good experience overall. I loved the sitcom pastiches - Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany have wonderful chemistry - and as an exploration of grief, it shines. While it's a good character piece, the final plot reveals weren't as interesting as I hoped, but they got the job done in terms of telling the story. And that one song is amazing - anyone who's watched it knows which one. Srsly recommended.

Loved the intrigue of this. It’s certainly unique from anything else in the franchise, and the episode 5 ending certainly surprised me, even though I’d considered the possibility already. The primary issue is that it peaked with episode 5 IMO, but what comes after is still enjoyable. Also the first two episodes could’ve probably been compressed into one.

WandaVision is an enjoyable mini-series that has a few concepts going through it, none of which are particularly strong on their own merit. The Wanda-Vision portion provides some solid drama surrounding grief, but flounders a little with the comedy. The sitcom era skipping is clever, but not executed as well as has come to be expected from the MCU. Hahn steels every scene she's in. Parris' Monica lays interesting ground. Peters inclusions was ultimately disappointing. Park was a joy.

I was hoping the generous runtime of a television miniseries might finally allow the Marvel cinematic universe to explore the characters and their relationship dynamics but unfortunately it's just more empty spectacle. It's almost like it's a real show with stakes and stuff, but it never commits, so it doesn't ever quite become something I can respect. This is the last Disney mediocrity I'm ever wasting time on. Fuck that entire company's 21st century output. It's a plague on human culture.

Thought the first few episodes were PAINFUL to watch, had to actively work to keep myself watching them. But once I got over those few episodes, the show started growing on me, getting better and better with each episode. It culminated in the seventh episode which was a parody where the comedy actually worked and with a giddy, and gleeful ending. It falters after that. Bettany, Hahn and Olsen all do fine work but in the end it felt too Marvel-y to ever be anything more than just entertaining.

I'm bitter toward the MCU, but I have to admit that this was a breath of fresh air. I liked the creativity and commitment to homaging different decades of sitcoms while also trying to tell a serious story. It worked surprisingly well for most of it, though the Malcolm in the Middle and Office spin-offs were less well-handled and mostly just awkward. It also really irks me that episodes now have post-credit scenes with pivotal information. That's just not how it should work.

For a first attempt at a big budget mainline MCU TV series, they nailed it. If you didn't engage in the speculation that caused everyone to have super high expectations and just enjoyed the ride, it was great. My only complaint is that the Evan Peters tease felt like a "haha you'll never have this" moment, but I take it in good fun and loved the twist at the end. Highlight is Vision fighting Vision through a debate, that was so silly that it was great.

Nope. In the end, I can easily say that the actors were amazing and well-directed. But the show itself is weak. The story doesn't work for me. I mean, I understand they tried hard to make something new, and all the easter eggs are very cool... but no, I am not going to watch it again. (Last thing... this must be said: Elizabeth Olsen wearing the original Scarlet Witch suit... gorgeous).

Most of it was pretty good, one of the few interesting things done within the MCU that are more than just a spectacle. As soon as the military plot got going though, it started going downhill. And the finale was typical MCU: bland villains that are nothing more than mirrors to the heroes. Still, better than average for MCU and worth checking out even if you don't usually like their stuff.

It is a shame that the marketing implied a more interesting angle of using these characters to dissect different eras of TV (and societal) culture - this is dropped halfway through to digress to typically dense and convoluted Marvel plotting, which may become tiring if you’re not already a devoted student of the ongoing saga. Typically well crafted (and in retrospect it’s fun to see Hahn rise up and steal the whole show), but recommended for saga devotees only.

Wandavision is an interesting take on the "fake reality" trope wherein Wanda herself is willingly responsible for it and all the suffering that comes with that. The sitcom motif adds a lot of creative flair to the narrative which changes each episode. However, the story ends up not respecting Wanda enough to see the wrong in her actions to justify a shitty MCU climatic fight. The blame is instead placed on a weak villain, which ruins much of the intrigue in the narrative and characterization.

I actually like the Wanda and Vision characters but this series didn't work for me at all. Primarily based around the gimmick of the main characters seemingly stuck in a different sit-com style each week, that approach quickly grew tiresome and proved ultimately irrelevant. Further to this so many supporting characters and subplots proved equally superfluous making Wandavision a near 6 hr version of a weak story that could have been trimmed down to a more digestible but still poor 2 hr movie.

A unique direction for the MCU. The early episodes each had character, but the later ones seemed to forego that to push the plot forward. The introduction of the secondary cast, and the actions outside of suburbia, brought the series down as a whole. And, of course, I can't get over the last few scenes, where Wanda left her two kids to die, alone, behind a closed door, which forever cements her as a terrible mother in my eyes. But, yes, essential watching for Marvel fans.

One of the few shows I have ever been genuinely excited to watch each week, and disappointed when the episodes ended. Elizabeth Olsen, Kathryn Hahn, Paul Bettany, and Teyonah Paris did a great job switching between eras, their performances were some of the best we've seen in the MCU. I wish the SWORD aspect was dialed down a bit especially with the unnecessary extra villain subplot.

This show did some things super well like the treatment of grief, the riff on sitcoms from the different eras, and just keeping you wonder what in the world was going on for a good portion of the show. I just felt the ending was a let down, the villains were either a bit too much of an unknown (even unknown if they were truly a villain) or the typical I want to make better weapons through questionable means villain we've seen before. It was an interesting ride, but had some flaws in the end.

I'm wondering if there's some backstory in one of the movies or other MCU TV shows that I'm not privy to and therefore unable to understand what is going on.
