The quintessential thriller, Fincher's masterwork hasn't been matched since. By not witnessing the murders, the audience retains the perspective of the protagonists. Like them, we experience only the aftermath of the gruesomeness while the real impact of the film comes from the menacing (and classically noir) mood of hostility and complete and utter despair, brilliantly supported by both style, plot and characterization, all crystalizing the bleak theme of a world in utter disrepair. Perfection.

David Fincher doing what David Fincher does best! The actors all fit their roles perfectly, the story keeps you guessing, and the ending is truly haunting (if you don't already know what happens). I've always loved Finchers tone and directing style, and this was very much more of that. The end result is very entertaining, chilling, horrific, and oddly beautiful. Great film.

Se7en is one of the essential films of the 90s. It redefined the horror genre and established new techniques and conventions that shocked the public. It's a disturbing film which has poignancy in its core, but I wouldn't recommend to the faint of heart. It's grisly and graphic, but the gore is necessary for the film. It instantly became one of my favourites and I think it could easily pass as my favourite. An excellent thriller that will be recognized as revolutionary for years to come.

With a dark, menacing score that perniciously pulses from start to finish, an airtight ensemble cast that interacts with almost distressingly subtle nuance, and all the harsh lighting and sinister cinematography that has come to define the contemporary film noir, Se7en is absolutely one of the best crime thrillers ever created. Fincher's first true masterpiece, the story follows two thoroughly antagonistic New York detectives through a mélange of religion, literature, psychosis, and pure horror.

Macabre, enveloping mystery/thriller centred on confronting apathy and disconnection amidst depravity. The grim mood here is pervasive (dank buildings, dark clothes, rain), the set design and production outstanding, especially the killers abode. These cramped scenes lend impact to a sparse, open finale. Freeman is great, but Spacey's sermonising, exquisite. He owns the film in his brief scenes. The story structure grips as the count builds, gruesome discoveries beckon, the payoff hammering home.

Fantastic film. Freeman, Pitt and Spacey are all equally grand in it. The gritty style fits New York's dark underbelly perfectly. Certainly gross and grim with the brutal murders but if you can get through that you know you're watching a masterpiece.

Dark, innovating and deeply disturbing. A great thriller and one of my favorite movies. Pitt and Freemann make a perfect crime solving pair as they dive into the dark seedy underbelly of the city. A genious plot, where the journey is as good as the goal it self. When I saw it the first time I was on the tip of my seat waiting to see how the next sin would be manifested. Fincher when he is at his very best.

Nearly flawless in its mood. The last 25 minutes is one of the greatest endings, even after all the parodies and countless rewatches. This is a perfect example of how a director can take a single mood (in this case gloomy/grim) and encompass it into every square inch of the film.

This is what David Fincher does so well: updating New Hollywood aesthetics by adding new cinematic storytelling twists. Se7en draws a good deal from The Exorcist--as an idealist and a cynical mentor face off against a force of evil that makes them question their worldviews up until a gutpunch of an ending. And likewise, the technical skill is amazing, especially in photography that adds to every scene. The film was groundbreaking at the time (and constantly imitated) and continues to age well.

Cop thrillers -- especially ones with philosophically-minded serial killers -- are a dime a dozen, but this is a good one. I found Kevin Spacey's character more intriguing than most characters who murder out of some twisted ideology. The cast is great.

2. An unforgettable cinematic experience. The film is a textbook example of craftsmanship and meticulous professionalism. An incredible pace in the tradition of Polanski's best, although it may very well be corrected to "in Fincher's best." The film blends a gripping, morbid atmosphere with pan on acting by a great cast, and the unforgettable dialogue, interactions and set pieces are sublime. I can't praise the film enough, albeit the last few scenes fall a little short for me every time.

This was so engrossing that the ending was almost a letdown since it was all over. Kevin Spacey was onscreen for a small amount but made the most of it. I wish I saw more development from Freeman's character but what did I expect from someone on the verge of retirement? The action sequences were well done. Fav scenes: SWAT storming the building; Pitt and Freeman chasing Spacey in the rain.

Style and whole atmosphere in the movie fits plot and story perfectly. This movie is maybe dark and hostile to watch at times, but if you want to treat yourself with a brilliant thriller you should watch it and endure at times if its hard cause eventually it will pay off. Progression is brilliant as well and work of leading acting duo is great, but the 3rd one that comes in last half an hour is even better for me! Despite couple flaws this movie is still brilliant work of filmmaking.

Top badass moment? Why are they sins? They sound great to me. To be honest, I thought this was a Star Trek origins film, but there was no sign of Jeri Ryan and no one gets assimilated. Another of life’s bitter disappointments. Also, this film would have been so much more fun if Morgan Freeman’s character had been called Boon. Or is that idea… just the worst? (BTW, the box contains a DVD of "Cool World".) 1 decapitation (although you don’t actually see it), no cats or chainsaws.

Although this is a thriller, it has a horror sensibility to it, which I think is very clever. What sums up being a horror fan is, I think, knowing you shouldn't look, but wanting to anyway, and Se7en has you feeling that in spades. What site doesn't know the correct title of a modern classic?! It's Se7en! Anyway. This is David Fincher at his best. A great director can take a decent but formulaic script and make it into something truly unique. By focussing on "in-between"-scenes, Se7en is like 2001s star-sequence, a guided tour through a world where the idealists are punished, people are lonely and miserable, the rain is relentless and the sun blinds the eye - with Fincher as your guide. Compellingly unpleasant masterpiece.

Seven is a film not quite as focused on solving the mystery as it is with telling a compelling story about the personality contrast between two police detectives. The characters play off one another quite well, and create drama with just each other. The murders aren't showing in progress, like most films, but the aftermath is shown instead. This creates some bone-chilling scenes, which make the film quite dark in nature. The ending is used in a great way to conclude an already dark film.

Se7en is a fantastic movie. Utterly brilliant crime drama. The only reason that I did not give it a perfect score is because of it's predictability (especially near the end) and lack of a truly exceptional plot.
