Given that it was made in 1959, I had no way of expecting this movie to be as hilarious today as it must've been upon its release. It's loaded to the brim with clever innuendos and double entendres, and Wilder keeps a breakneck pace the whole way through. Lemmon and Curtis turn in some of the best performances in any comedy I've ever seen, and Joe E. Brown is hilarious as well. And Marilyn Monroe...goddamn she was hot.

Just perfection ! Great characters, brilliant dialogue, snappy one liners and Marilyn Monroe playing the Eukalele .. what more could any film want? Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis are brilliantly funny with some great 50's Hollywood in-jokes for the real officionadoes. This should be in any film collection worth its salt. Guaranteed to make you laugh.

The greatest comedy of all-time? Really? I guess if you piss yourself laughing that TWO DUDES DRESS UP LIKE CHICKS AND ARE IN RIDICULOUS SITUATIONS OMG! . . . you may agree. The "humor" is so fucking juvenile. Wilder's little quips are just dumb. The guy sure has a knack for making comedies that aren't funny. Avoid this shit unless you're 12 years old, you've somehow arrived via time machine in the fifties where this sort of crap passes as comedy, and you have a serious Marilyn Monroe fetish.

I really didn't expect this movie to be as funny as it was. I've seen the crossdressing thing a million times, and it was made almost 50 years ago, so I didn't expect it to age well. But the fact of the matter is, this is hilarious the whole way through, and I think I even missed out on a good portion of the jokes. Lemmon and Curtis are perfect, and Monroe steals almost every scene she's in.

This film lives beyond authorial intent. Certainly Diamond and Wilder set out to make a funny sex comedy, and with gusto. It's hilarious. But there's much to be said about its depiction of "other" existence, and in retrospect it seems enlightened: these two men must now endure the male gaze. Moreover, the queer overtones were breaking new ground, and the significance is renewed in the age when gender dysphoria is more appropriately recognized.

Despite its legendary status, it fell rather flat for me. This must have been side-splittingly hilarious back in the day, but to me it felt the movie didn't age that well. Of course there's a lot to love; Lemmon gives a wonderful performance and Monroe is absolutely stunning (and does she know how to dress revealingly!) but despite some clever lines I could not get thát much enjoyment out of this...

Yes, it's a movie about cross-dressing men and you MIGHT say that its enormous succes has a direct link to the creating of movies like Norbit and White Chicks, but that's like saying that Jesus has a direct link to Rob Schneider because they both have jewish parents! Norbit and White Chicks are girls you nail in nasty public toilets and never want your friends to know about, whereas Some Like It Hot is the girl you spend your entire life chasing. The girl of your dreams. Wilder at his VERY Best!

I do declare, Marilyn Monroe wears some pretty damn revealing outfits in this movie. And some of these double entendres are less than subtle ("It's not how long it takes, it's who's taking you."). This is an outrage, an outrage I say. But seriously, this movie is really funny. Lemmon and Curtis have excellent chemistry, and Monroe, well, she still holds up.

This is a surprising movie for a lot of reasons. It's still incredibly funny to this day. The humor doesn't seem dated or boring in any respect. And also for the fact that Jack Lemmon looks pretty good as a girl. Just kidding.

Like many, it seems on Criticker at least, I was in no way expecting the movie to be as funny and raunchy, but not disgusting like quite a few of today's comedies, as it was. Marilyn Monroe has such a presence it's amazing. Lemmon and Curtis are both hilarious to watch as the cross-dressing duo on the run from the mob. Yes, you've seen movies about cross dressing before but believe me this one is still worth seeing, in fact more so than almost every other cross-dressing movie.

SLIH is a film that if we saw it 59 years ago, we would have thought was absolutely brillant!. A film which ouses class, has three stars who radiate from the screen and a story which is just what the post war movie industry is all about; fun. Although people talk about cross-dressing done to death, SLIH never ( rarely !) play it for cheap laughs, and although a little too long, its a film which stands the test of time, not least because it proves Monroe is a true star.

Hilarious, consistently. Curtis and Lemmon are a great pairing -- Curtis as the reserved, um, straight man and Lemmon going freakishly off the rails, inspiring Jokers to come. Loved Curtis's Cary Grant impression. Monroe is free, sexy. There's a few hiccups here and there, but this feels so dangerously modern!

Nobody's perfect but "Some Like It Hot", a delicious cross-dressing comedy, comes damn close, featuring terrific performances from its leading ladies (Lemmon in particular). The hysterical premise triggers off some truly memorable and hilarious situations. The film is backed up not only by the performances but also from the delirious, witty script that has perfect comedic timing and also Wilder's solid, sophisticated direction. A must-see for those who like it hot.

Having been very impressed w/ Wilder's The Apartment I was hoping for more of the same here, but it disappointed. Wilder's inventiveness is still on display, but only at the start in the way he reveals the time & setting of the film (it involves a car chase). However, the rest of this may well have been groundbreaking at the time, but having grown up w/ Bosom Buddies, the ideas seem very dated now. The farcical nature of the comedy is at 3's Company level & Curtis is too jerky to root for.

Holy moley, the innuendo. A-grade script; every line cracks like a whip. Lemmon is fantastic as always, Curtis somehow manages to be a little less sleazy than usual (this was the last movie I'd expected to see that in), and Monroe is...well, Monroe. Who's complaining? I laughed. A lot.

I was gonna say, "I like it cold" but it turned out to be very enjoyable. Actually I wanted to like it but I thought of a clever pun and then came up with an over long diatribe to make an excuse of using it. Now you don't really know if I'm lying or not. Art is dead, everything is a lie.

Viewed for 1st time in 2009. Hilarious from start to finish, with no boring parts and lots of physical comedy. One of the funniest movies I've ever seen, and the humor has aged remarkably well. If only modern comedies could get back to the basics of physical comedy, buffoonery and back-and-forth dialog, there would be far more worth seeing in the theaters these days. Marilyn Monroe does a great job, and obviously so do the two leads. I loved the fast pace, with no boring sappy parts anywhere.

Unbeatable comedy cemented the reputations of its stars (who are equally a little bit of terrific), and confirmed Wilder's status amongst the best America-based film-makers of the 50s. Hilarious, rapid-fire gags (some of delivered so breathlessly that the censors must have missed them) and a sterling supporting cast helping to make this a comedy classic. Lemmon and Brown make an uproarious double-act, and Lemmon's trampy approach to Daphne is an inspired highlight. Now, where's that bourbon?

Monroe goes toe to toe with Lemon and Curtis, all pretty great. Unlike other misunderstanding/deception plots this one doesn't over do it, it's a great setup but the crossdressing isn't the only source of comedy. Mostly the film relies on Wilder's sharp writing and great delivery of the leads. Then there's all the sexual subtext and just plain text in the film, which is fascinating to look at with modern eyes, including the film's iconic finale. Had a great time.
