"Get rid of the Seaward." The response to this line, which I won't spoil here, is worth my 100 score all by itself. (Seasons 1-3 only.)

The first three seasons are immaculate, and the fourth, while fine, pales in comparison to the first three. Maybe it's simply due to the show's influence being so immediate and all-encompassing that other shows successfully achieving similar results renders the flaws of the fourth season more obvious. But, as with rating all of these newly added shows, it's a disclaimer. The first three seasons are the collective height of TV comedy, and one of the most major revolutions in the sitcom format.

This is quite possibly the most complexly-written sitcom ever made. One-off gags don't exist. It seems every single gag is recurring, each one morphing and evolving and growing on their separate paths, sometimes one running gag will branch off into multiple, sometimes two gags will grow together into one. It's a process that's absolutely fascinating, and of course, hilarious, to watch.

The best comedy series of my lifetime. The running jokes and hidden meanings and hints in this show are nearly uncountable.

So much goodness packed into 4 short seasons. You really have to watch every episode multiple times to get every joke. When it's hard to pick a favorite character...you know you're doing something right.

I'll never understand how or why they were making foreshadowing jokes literally a season before they became relevant at a time when there was no way for people to appreciate it (no netflix or tv show dvds for re-watching the show in order). Easily the most clever comedy series ever written.

Every character in this show was so well-defined yet complex, and fun to watch. Likewise with the story; I watched it sporadically when it aired and never felt lost even tuning in in the middle of an episode, yet close attention and rewatching reveals the staggering amount of care that went into the narrative. Belated 4th season not really factored into the rating--it's less purposeful, and desperate to please, but is so disconnected from the main body of the show that it doesn't drag it down.

That Arrested Development show is some kind of something. Boy, this Arrested Development show is all anybody's ever talking about. So sick and tired of hearing about how brilliant that Arrested Development show is. Overrated.

Season 4 isn't very entertaining but commands enough of my respect to not result in a downgrade

I cannot praise this show enough. It is the greatest TV comedy of all time and that is thanks to incredible cast lead by Jason Bateman. Over the course of the original run it was awkward, off the wall and insanely funny because yes the characters truly are a bunch of high functioning lunatics. The jokes are left up to the audience to understand through witty dialogue and situations that generally provide the ability to create something funny around. Good comedies start with good characters.

Arrested Development makes me smile every time I think about it. Lots of jokes, running gags, and pure absurdity. Great show! Season 4 and 5 have their moments, through a combination of time, relevance, momentum and writing, are just not as good.

In its initial 2003-2006 run, it was far and away my favorite television series on the air and of all time, with one of the best comedy ensembles ever, smart serialized storytelling, amazing running jokes, and scripts dense with pure hilarity that made me near puke with laughter (George Michael's awkwardness and Gob's bluster are the best). I mourned its cancellation like the death of a family member. I would dock it points for the vastly inferior season 4, but I just choose to ignore.

[through season 5] The original seasons are great, but the Netflix ones are abysmal. If I were rating them separately, it'd probably be around 85 for the first three seasons, and around 40 for the last two.

This is one of the worst shows I've ever tried to watch. Try as I might I was unable to make it through the first season.

I have probably seen each episode over four or five times, and I still peel away new layers of jokes, to my delight.

Hands-down the greatest pure comedy to ever come out of a small screen, Arrested Development can also easily claim to be among the most creative, funniest, strangest, most fearless, and most instantly recognizable shows to ever air.

One of the few shows to truly take advantage of the medium of serialized television to build its own universe, not of characters or spaceships but of hilarity.

During its first three seasons Arrested Development was not only the best-written show on network television, it was the best written comedy show ever made. The characters are all interesting and exceptionally well-cast. The humor is multilayered and rewards repeat viewings because of how intricately the jokes are developed. Yeah, Netflix tried to recapture the magic but I just ignore those seasons because they just aren't as great. It's worth saying a second time: the writing is without peer.
