Lost in Translation italian style, except with a better plot.

It has almost everything you'd want in a movie; suspence, drama, romance, humour, tragedy, coupled with a beautiful score and picture. I loved it.

A man has become extremely detached from life, and carries on in a cold, routine existence. As he begins to make a connection to another human being, there are consequences. The tone is subdued, introspective. The music is a mixed bag: the soundtrack has some wonderful, eerie electronica in it, but the string score is a little much and tries to make EVERY moment feel like a transformative one. Some nice camerawork. I doubt this will stay with me for long, but I thought it was worth seeing.

Curious film with a relatively simple plot that remains, nevertheless, interesting and extremely well executed.

Not love at first sight, but there are enough quite captivating style and substance here to be back for a second date; the puzzling plot is revealingly simple, but less can bring so much more - and that's the intriguing impression from this first date. *Preview*: #14#, story, reviews!.

Strangely riveting thriller, stylishly made. Its secrets unfold slowly, keeping me utterly hooked, and in the end, moved. The electronic score struck a false note for me though.

Sharp camera, sharp edits. Undeniable how well thought of a protagonist that carries this burden undone by all forms of love and relationships. The coolest heartbroken, semi-addict, distant father, mafia member character that I can recall. Wicked ending.

What a curious film. I'd like to see it again. Arresting. It felt longer than it actually was, but not for a moment was I bored.

A quiet, contemplating film; the protagonist is very sensitive. The message of the boredom of life is universally understandable to every human.

Extremely stylish (but in this case this is, unusually, not a synonym for superficial), with excellent use of camera and very good soundtrack. Genuinely interesting plot. The themes are involving also, although the enormous skill that went into crafting the movie may have inflated this to some extent.

The consequences of watching a film of a director that you admire from his other works.

That was odd.

A solid film, centred on the main characther portray, with a simple but strong plot. Tasteful Sorrentino directing, without the virtuosisms of his last works (The Great Beauty and Il Divo).

The plot description makes the film sound like a love story, but it's far more interesting than that. It's not the story of an older man who springs back to life and walks happily into the sunset with a pretty young woman. It walks a far darker path and is really about pyrrhic victories, which are my favourite kind.
