While the middle lacks a sufficient villain, and therefore narrative thrust, the beginning is one of the greatest examples of sheer JOY in film in ages. The rest of the film can't hope to attain the beauty of the beginning sequences (and those costumes!), but the whole of the film is fascinating, and a refreshing aesthetic change.

Ambitious. Interesting. But not for me.

Finally! A film that celebrates and revels in Bollywood and all it's operatic campiness! While the second half drags a little, on a whole it's a incredibly fun joy-filled ride. This would be the film I would recommend to someone if they've never seen a Bollywood musical before, as it so perfectly encapsulates everything Indian Cinema can be when done right.

Don't know bollywood well enough it seems since this is clearly a better tribute to Bollywood of the last 30 years than it is a film in its own right. the plot is predictable but lends itself well to the spectacle and theatricality.musical numbers were all done well especially the climactic one. this would be my 5th 2+ hour bollywood film, but it's the first one i felt ran overlong. the first half in particular drags filled as it is with references to films and actors ive never seen. still: Fun.

Boogie Nights level of fun in the first third, degenerating into mind-numbing melodrama and a ridiculous reincarnation third act. Feel free to just watch Karz, which it's a pure pastiche/homage of, since it's also the superior film.

By the middle of the movie, I said, "fuck it," and threw all logic out the window. The story is nucking futs, and it's certainly an experience if you don't watch much Bollywood movies.

Bollywood...love it or hate it. Definitely not the kind of movies I like to spend my time with. but overall not bad for those who love sopping cheesy movies.

Fun and Creative throughout. But toooo long. I fast-forwarded through all songs but one (Ajab si). Its kind of a unique Indian film. But is it worth the 3 hours?

Some joyous dance sequences, and good natured performances from the cast, can't overcome crippling overlength and VERY strange, nonsensical plotting, which makes much of the second half difficult to understand (and ultimately endure). But beautiful cinematography, and those lavish song and dance sequences, at least maintain a degree of interest, especially in the first half.

Crazy fun movie that is pure cinematic bliss. I tended to enjoy the story based on the past more than the "present day" story, however both of the time periods offer plenty of enjoyment.

Nice - cheesy and everything people who hate about Bollywood hate - but I quite enjoyed it. Although it could have been 60 to 90 minutes shorter

Yes, it's cheesy. Yes, it's full of overacting. And, yes, there's unnecessary music and dancing. But I think this movie is a nice tribute to Bollywood and its fans. I wasn't too fond of Deepika as the female lead but Shahrukh is the guy to go to if you need overacting and cringe-inducing dialogues delivered as painfully as possible. It's a fairly enjoyable movie for those who are bored out of their minds. In short, OSO is passable fluff.

Note to myself: lots of dancing and Deepika looks great, but too long and story unbelievable.
