"Pollock" presents a story about a self-destructive alcoholic. It delivers some good performances, but the story isn't interesting.

The only thing Ed Harris seems to achieve is keeping his anti-hero intriguing. Partly because of his own acting skills, but definitely not his directing skills.

This is one of those movies that necessitates that you care about the person it's about. Otherwise you just have a formulaic biopic about a self destructive ass. And that's mostly what this is. But there's one thing that made me like it: Jackson Pollock's fascinating painting process. I'm no art expert, but I love seeing a unique mind at work, and Pollock's was definitely unique. Harris really makes us believe it too.

Why do people keep making movies about painters? It's almost impossible to portray the creative process--I've seen a lot of attempts, and the ONLY one that manages it is Clouzot's "Le mystère Picasso". Usually the only thing that makes painters interesting for an audience is their social unpresentability...Pollock had that in spades. So what you have here essentially is 2 hours of Marcia Gay Harden looking at Ed Harris with consternation. (Okay, occasionally other actors get a crack at it, too.)

A Great artist, well played, but the presentation was a bit conventionally...

Pollock's biography is not just dramatic enough to be transformed into decent biopic. Sometimes weird editing drags it even more down. Though some memorable performance and decent scenery managed to turn this movie into a good one.

Great cast carry this by the numbers biopic. Probably suffered slightly from Harris' directing.

Generic Hollywood stylized biopic with Ed Harris turning in an adequate performance. Jackson Pollock just isn't intriguing enough to build a picture around him. Everything else was pretty much paint by the numbers.

Talented actors acting out Pollock's wikipedia-page. It's not bad, Harden and Harris manage to carry the film.

Great performances by the two leads, but the direction did little for the film. Nothing in this film rises above a "typical bio-epic." Very sloppy editing on top of a "decent" film.

A labour of love from Harris. Too bad, then, so little came from it.

This movie seems to get the painting for the most part, & the sets are amazing. The movie comes off as a great attempt at presenting something about Pollock, is done with obvious integrity, yet feels like the light version. I'm not altogether certain of what the goal was in doing the picture since it does not reveal the power & intensity of his work nor does it really seem to create a very full image of him.

Kind of like a Jackson Pollock painting: confusing, messy, possibly provocative, but ultimately lacking.
