Villains

The appeal of this particular Skarsgård continues to elude me.

As far as home invasion movies go, this one is pretty mild. I expected more given the circumstances.

With the first decade of the 2000's riddled with a landslide of home invasion movies reminiscent of the same sub-genre boom of slashers in the 80's it's only natural to see a wave of inverted genre movies where the invaders are the good guys and the homeowners are the sickos. This one is not a first, but it's a well formulated, tongue-in-cheek rendition not to be taken seriously, yet it's seriously entertaining.

Both scary and funny, which is not always the easiest combination.

Oddly sedate when it should have been cutthroat, this is still an enjoyable diversion, with Monroe and Skarsgård’s adequate but perfunctory performances completely overwhelmed by a pair of delicious ones from Donovan and Sedgwick; Donovan especially runs with the eccentric character he has been handed. Plays out on a frustratingly literal, basic level with some intriguing depths unexplored (starting with why Donovan and Skarsgård resemble each other so much), but still a fun watch.
