Biography: Born Derek Jules Gaspard Ulric Niven van den Bogaerde, he served in the World War II before becomes a matinée idol over the 50s. In the early 60s, 'Victim' prompted him to a more serious career, and soon he achieved the peak of his prestige by working alongside renowned filmmakers. Also, he successfully debuted as writer, in 1977. Bogarde's last cinematic effort was in 1990, after a hiatus of twelve years off the big screen. Still, until his death, maintained a prolific literary production.
