Loch Henry

Ironic that both episodes so far are showing how messed up Netflix is whilst Netflix is simultaneously the reason the show ain’t as good as it used to be.

Seen: 2. A welcome twist on the true crime genre.

This was a very predictable story that used a bunch of tropes that are popular with Found Footage films. This thing should've been much shorter than we could've skipped the lame montage section.

The twist (and really the whole plot) couldn't be more obvious. The only surprise to be found was how terribly it does away with a couple of characters before the epilogue, which on its own is enjoyable. There's a good idea for a theme at the heart of the episode but it's explored in too straight-forward of a way to be incisive, though it is still amusing.

A twisty crime story that just happens to be a commentary on true crime documentaries

Uninspired "crime of the week" episode.

I was genuinely scared, sad, and thrilled. Amazing acting, story and cinematography. Genius!

In retrospect, it almost feels like there was only one way this could have gone but I didn't realize it until near the end. Very well done overall and the message drives home for this viewer of way too many true crime stories.

Homaging Alan Partridge’s pitch for Swallow (“People like them, lets make some more of them”) the open allusion to the fact Netflix is full of this kinda stuff already begs the question why add to the pile (especially when this isn’t even a true story) and means we have another unoriginal Black Mirror that doesn’t even feel like one. If you’ve never seen anything like this before give it an extra star, but I have and don’t tune in to BM to watch an edgier episode of Vera.

It’s interesting how the character of Pia, played by Myha’la Herrold, speaks in a kind of jargonistic way typical of “the youth”, and it’s not totally clear what the writer’s attitude is towards that way of speaking.
