LAPD deputy chief Stephen Downing: "They show officers violating the 4th Amendment routinely, manhandling people, not employing the escalation/de-escalation concepts of the use of force...The public is conditioned to believe that it is okay for our police to behave in this manner--they see it in fictional movies and television and they see it on COPS, so it must be okay--until they are on the receiving end and personally experience what it is like to be the victim of police misconduct."

I wonder how this show would go over if it premiered today.

A format that keeps on giving the gift of opportunities to indulge the pleasure of observing those whose circumstances are more unfortunate than one's own.

What exactly is the current status of this show? Obviously HARD canceled (culturally) back in 2020 and I’m sure I heard of it being yanked off air, but it’s now comfortably on the air in 2022. Then again the Dem governor in my state ran nonstop reelection ads about how hard she supports & funds the police, so new talking points have obviously dropped since 2020. (Note that I hate the cops, but that’s been my stance my whole life; I don’t just refresh my opinion with every NPC software update.)

I find this show kind of interesting, there's no real script or even a reality TV show set up.It's just a bunch of edited footage of cops going about their daily business be it apprehending crooks or just monitoring a household to see if its inhabitants are law abiding.It shows that the job is not glorious or clean,and that being a cop is honestly hard at times. Sometimes the footage they use is pretty boring and it's obvious it's made for TV,but a decent portrait of policework on a basic level.

When it's not glorifying them brutalising people for something as simple as owning certain drugs it's shameless "they protect us" propaganda.

Genuinely harmful to American culture and policing as a profession.

Yeah I don't like this show. I remember what's this they ask it like they are talking to a cat or something. He says no man it's not drugs it's sugar I borrowed to make me some good chocolate cake. Then the cop just tastes it tells him it's drugs and handcuffs him. You just here him say this is not justice man I told you it's sugar when they gave it to me man.

Every episode is the same. Force the camera into the face of some poor, shirtless and sometimes toothless bastard and force him to make an ass of himself on national tv. I'd like to see the episodes where the cops are so inept that the perp gets away. Nothing says entertainment like an out of shape 40 year old trying to chase after a spry 20 something, only to give up almost immediately because of lack of cardio.

Disgusting that this show not only exists, but is the longest running reality TV show if you're not counting game shows. The current state of the country should demonstrate that as a society we do not need a show that glorifies policing of the poor.

ACAB and all that, but I have to give it at least a point for the Bad Boys song.

Amazingly entertaining for something so repetitive. There is gold hidden among some of these episodes.
