I'm not familiar with the source material but after a brilliant opening episode, Foundation never quite lives up to the promise, but remains watchable due to some interesting themes and narratives and some great performances from the likes of Harris and Llobell. Unfortunately there are also some storylines and performances that are weak or mediocre at best which impacts the overall enjoyment but there's still a Foundation to build on here in future seasons ... pun intended!

Essentially Star Wars for grownups, in the sense that it's a sprawling, beautiful space opera, in service of some truly intersting hard sci-fi concepts.

Awful so far. Not related to the books in spirit. A lot of care was taken creating flashy explosions; seems nobody cared to check the script with anybody with a degree.

Amazing series. For me only bettered by The Expanse. Can be a bit out there story wise but it’s gripping and look forward to next series. Book worms say it’s not like the books.

I wanted to love this show, as it presents a futuristic sci-fi tale with some great and forward thinking ideas. But the pronounced lack of attention to details, unrealistic, bad writing, and shitty acting (Cassian Bilton, Lou Llobell) just gets impossible to ignore. Could have been executed much better.

s1: Fairly decent s2: Started out poorly but ramped up and ended well enough. Liked queen and Demerzel storylines, didn't like Tellem.

S1: 70 | S2: 75 | Above average TV Sci-Fi. While it’s consistently good, the last three episodes of Season 2 are a big step up. There’s some really great performances from its cast. The characters are bit of a mixed bag, with some of the best ones being supporting characters that only last a season each. The time hopping is already starting to wear a bit thin, but I’m open to what they do next.

Season 1, and start of 2 is just Dune. Fewer worms, but same history and (established God-emperor on) plot. Spacers who need spice, emperors elite warriors from prison planets - honestly just about every single idea. Season 2 starts to come into it's own, but they still don't seem to know what the story is gonna be yet, or, don't know what to present, how. Pacing is monotonous. Any indulgences are for social commentaries, and not world exploration or character building. I do like Dune tho...

After three seasons I must say I like this much better than I expected it to be. Season 3 is especially tight, and having read the whole of Asmiov's book series twice — once to decide I don't think much of his writing and the second time to confirm it, considering he's so well loved — I find the show more engaging than his work, basically humanising it and making it interesting, albeit less science, more fiction. Not perfect, but likeable, solid space opera for the fans of fantasy sci-fi gen

S1: very loosely based on the novels, solid high-concept sci-fi series with great acting and great settings. S2: completely divorced from the novels, space opera with fantasy elements that irk me. Still great acting/scenery/sfx, but pushes my suspension of disbelief just a little too far. Derails a bit towards the end, but enjoyed the rest greatly.

You might like it better if you don't compare it with the original material, Asimov's books, but how can you not think about that while watching an adaptation?

I thought this series was fantastic. Multiple fascinating worlds and characters, and a large, multi timeline plot that is crazy to follow but I think has so far paid off really well, but I'm also really excited to see where it goes next. The show also looks brilliant, especially in HDR.

If you get an inkling of attachment to a character, guess what - they dead in the next scene. But “luckily” more come along out of a revolving plot door. Characters that feel sympathetic make bizarre 180 psycho turns. There’s no motivational consistency. It’s also enormously dissatisfying to see their every endeavor go to shits. Everything is plot-driven which makes the characters redundant. They could be replaced by any other. Only watching because my fam, Laura Birn and Lee Pace who is hot af.

Feels similar to Raised by Wolves, in its cold clinical feeling approach to sci fi. I am a big fan of the genre but have to say, the leaping around in time is a bit much and ultimately confusing. I will stick out the first season, but so far its not high on the list to continue if it remains at this quality level.
