One thing I noticed about the kids parents was that every woman was fat and every man was a full blown beta male. Can we therefore attribute the recent transgender movement to betas breeding? Kids don't have the ability to make decisions for themselves so what you're seeing often in this is just a "progressive" form of child abuse, it's quite sick really. That one dude talking about cutting his dick off like he was shopping for groceries was disturbing. http://i.imgur.com/2uOBamR.gif

I'll admit that I am not well-versed in the topic of transgender kids. It is certainly a controversial topic, but one that Theroux comes to with a sympathizing lens. While he was slightly too concerned with genitals, I think Theroux does what he does best in this doc, and shows people for who they are, whether we agree or disagree.

Theroux's usual approach, by which he enters a situation and presents what he sees, doesn't seem adequate to cover this topic. The issues go beyond what can be covered in this review, but it can at least be said that, in addition to all kinds of questions about the notions of rights, freedoms and identities, what rarely gets pointed out is the nexus of biotechnology and consumerism that both underlies and profits from these notions. The glimpses shown here seem like symptoms of deeper problems.

A good watch more for the talking points it brings up,a distinct lack of scientific insight into the issue leaving the viewer to make their own mind up.There's definite concern about some of the parents allowing their kids far too much control of their lives at such young ages, although the one adult recipient interviewed expresses regret he/she wasn't able to go through the process earlier.I doubt any clear conclusions can be drawn until we see their psychological states in a few decades' time.

Not an illuminating doco on the triumphs and hardships of transgender people (which is a very different story for them past the age of 17), but like other Theroux docos it's more based in just a few days in the lives of these families, making this feel like an experience with the kids who sometimes have surprising ideas about who they are (like the very girly Crystal who thinks she'll grow up to be a man anyway). Not hugely factual, but a timely (and often very cute) insight.

Interesting stuff. Perhaps it's the edit but strange how that well-meaning mother couldn't stretch to non-binary -it seemed so obvious.
