So I know JACK FUCKING SHIT about One Piece (it could be great, I dunno, I'm just never gonna even try to get into a 1000+ episode show; life is too short), but this seems fun enough so far. Embraces wild and wacky anime aesthetics, settings, costumes, physics etc and balances single-episode adventures with overarching narrative pretty good. Is it cringe? Oh yes. Most certainly. But I think in a more or less calculated and intentional way.

I guess I can understand the allure, but it's too childish and obnoxious for me.

This has come highly recommended from some niche sources for a while now. I don't get it - I don't connect with it - I don't want to. It's a farfatched pirate adventure mashed up with a goofy tone and bizarre atmosphere. It's visual style is off-putting, and saccereinly vibrant. It's almost campy approach to storytelling leaves me rolling my eyes every time. Made it 2 episodes deep and forgot about it. I think that was the right move, and will be mine going forward.

I'm not enamored with it like most everone else seems to be, just because it doesn't suck. It's fine. Some parts hit home, some parts are...:/ The lack of punch and brutality due to the shortened fights makes the villains less threatening, which weakens the drama, sadly. Same with the rewriting, especially Aarlong Park. Also the visual language of this show. Being way too close to everyone face so they look weird and wonky? What is that? Doesn't do most of them, and the show, many favors.

Set photos looked like trash and even the trailers looked a little wonky. Also, I'm no fan of the manga or the anime (mainly deterred by their length). But lo and behold, in context and with some good-willed suspense of disbelief, the show works. It's a great action adventure for all ages, with a dose of heart and care to it. I hope all studio executives take heed – don't force wokeness, and include original creators in the execution. No wonder this is breaking records at Netflix.

Dropped after episode 4. Now I understand why live action adaptation for anime doesn't work lmao. Our brain's evolution is trained to see what is real and what isn't real. There're some good moments... of rhythm. But when the rhythm is off, it's really easy to catch that. Buggy is de best actor... his tone and acting is very convincing. Luffy is so weak in the live action. Fights isn't really impactful/interesting except for zoro scenes.

It was nausea inducing. I don’t understand the point of any of these characters or their goals. How it surged in popularity as a comic bewilders me, like the popularity of “Cathy” or “The Family Circus”. Let alone this sanity-shattering live action CGI abomination. I now know there is no god.

Do you remember when they turned Rambo, Robocop, and Beetlejuice into cartoons? Probably not but this felt just like that. This wasn't terrible but it was just barely above decent. The acting, camerawork, pacing, and editing seemed to be by people who had never seen anime but just did what they thought anime does based on pop culture memes. For better or worse this looked and felt like cheap fan fiction.

The task of tackling the 1,000+ episodes of the original anime is daunting, but this live action adaptation appears to pull the greatest hits from the expansive swashbuckling universe and blazes its own trail of adventure. It's a little silly, yes, but in a campy and fun way and the bold sets, colorful characters, and explosive action sequences guarantee that this isn't ever boring and even is occasionally moving.

I have never seen the anime, nor will I, nor do I watch much anime at all. So with that in mind, I went in open minded (which I feel many reviewers do not, or cannot). Its not amazing, and its a bit childish (so is every anime I have seen), but I was entertained. Luffy's unwavering support (even if it conflicts with his own interests) and awe in the world are a bit contagious. Everything is kinda cookie cutter, but the advernture was enough for me. I will watch another season.

One of the few live-action anime adaptations that very closely captures the spirit of the show. All of the Strawhats are well-cast and it maintains the goofy campiness of the manga. While the script does unfortunately suffer from having the tiresome American "witticisms" that too often miss the mark and having some storylines flattened and simplified, I can at least understand the thinking process behind those changes. Not a bad introduction to the world of One Piece.

It's fine for what it is. The acting is terrible tho.
