Really thought I'd be able to make it through on accounta my partiality to alien bullshit, multi-generational sagas, and small-town Americana bullshit, but I'm tapping at two-thirds. Just awful. $40 mil?? Every effect and set-piece looks ten times worse than the cheapest-looking X-Files. Dakota Fanning has this faux-poetic voiceover throughout that honest to God sounds like an attempt to duplicate Linda Manz in DAYS OF HEAVEN except with the blandest TV-Spielberg crap and it's suicide territory

It's always nice to see sci-fi movies (or miniseries in this case) that don't rely on "eye candy" to get your attention. This roughly 13-14 hour miniseries comes packed with an interesting story about alien abductions (basically stuff you may have seen on, say, The X-Files, but with various twists). However there are certain elements like the occasional plot-hole and the not entirely good cast that bring down the whole thing a bit.

This is bad storytelling.

The high PSI puzzled me. I really didnt care about neither the people or the aliens. The content was too shallow and amateurish for me to invest more than an hour of my time.

It's been a long time since I watched this, but I remember enjoying it. Spielberg produced, Dakota Fanning, good sci-fi. I'll have to check this out again at some point.

The first episodes are a little disappointing but from five or six you want to see the whole thing. The best is how it is depicted the different families, their relationships and how some of them repeat the same mistakes.

This is a high quality Televison mini-series that deals with aliens.Leslie Bohen deserves acclaim for writing a compelling and interesting script for this Mini-Series.All the actors did a very good job in this, however special mention has to go to Dakota Fanning who as Allie gives one of the best performance's of a child that young I've seen.

It doesn't suck, and it has a bigger scope and bigger budget, but this is yet another one of those UFO stories that does hardly anything creative; instead, it recites the litany (gray men from outer space are visiting our planet in flying saucers, the government knows all about it but is covering it up, the aliens are benevolent despite all those scary abductions of people, etc.) because they're kowtowing to all the nutcases who are the core market for this stuff
