You've got to hand it to Blake Edwards. Unlike countless directors who give great franchises their A-grade launches only to let other hired hands and marketing people butcher the rest of the series, Edwards butchered it himself.

The franchise's rather low-brow humor and casual racism had overstayed its welcome by this point.

I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with Revenge. On paper I feel like it should be the best - Clouseau's disguises have never been so outrageous, his death is responsible for all sorts of funny misunderstandings, and Cato (the best thing to happen to the sequels) has never gotten so much screen-time. Yet, it just wasn't tickling me as much as it should.

This is a mostly ridiculous film, in a a bad way, I'd even go so far as to say stupid. Clearly Sellers had too much creative control on this occasion; way too many bad ideas made it through to the final cut. It's the opposite of 'The Pink Panther' in that every time Sellers is on screen he puts a dampener on proceedings. But there are some highlights, the 'Le Club Foot' scene and Dyan Cannon's portrayal of Simone Legree (she makes everyone else look second rate).

Unfortunately the air has well and truly gone from the franchise at this point, with both Sellers and Edwards seeming to phone their work in this time. The whole enterprise has a tired, lackluster feeling; not helped by the sidelining of Lom, and an overstated, 'wacky' performance from Cannon. A few mild chuckles, but no better than any number of Sellers cheapie 70s comedies. RIP Clouseau!

The last Sellers-starring Pink Panther is even better than the third and equally astonishing to the first two: another hilarious, must-see, laugh-out-loud comedy starring the greatest comedian ever, the brilliant Peter Sellers.

I've never been a fan of this series and I didn't find this funny in the least. At least I didn't hate myself for sitting through the entire film. Only watched this as part of my attempt to watch every movie released in 1978.

Had its good moments, but it seemed a drastic change in the characterization of Clouseau from the first movie.

Not as good as the other sequels I've seen in the series, yet fun and delightful enough anyways. Also the last one to have Peter Sellers.

All of the Pink Panther movies are funny, though not all of them age as well as one would hope, considering the legendary comedic talents of Peter Sellers.

The initial "proving his power" premise is pretty pitiful, but its serious men-in-suits setting juxtaposes perfectly with the silliness that centers on Sellers' obliviously fortuitous Clouseau, which includes outrageous action (see the multiple-ceiling-breaking fight in his apartment), wacky contrivances (see his "death" and later haunting of Dreyfus) and witty one-liners ("Oh my God." "Mine too.") that build up to a classic slapstick final act (see the elevator irony and crazy car chase).
