In the days before the July 19, 1969 space mission that marked humankind's first steps on the moon, NASA was working with a group of Australian technicians who had agreed to rig up a satellite interface. That the Aussies placed the satellite dish smack dab in the middle of an Australian sheep farm in the boondocks town of Parkes was just one of the reasons that NASA was concerned. Based on a true story, The Dish takes a smart, witty, comical look at the differing cultural attitudes between Australia and the U.S. while revisiting one of the greatest events in history. (imdb)

Yet another Australian 'comedy' although this one is actually halfway decent, brought to you by the Working Dog gang.

Impossible to resist moon landing tale with cute characters & idiotic framing sequence. Let's face it, when ya bust out stock Saturn V launch & moon walk footage, steep it in the awe it naturally inspires, there's nothing to do besides enjoy the trance.

A charming, funny and enjoyable film. The music is great too. Hands up who thinks that the Hawaii 5-0 theme is better than the Star Spangled Banner?

Cute, warm comedy about one of the radio telescopes that made sure there were TV pictures of the moon landing. Unfortunately it really doesn't have much more than "cute and warm" to offer; despite fibbing a bit to add extra excitement, the film doesn't really do anything with the story.

Engaging, low key small town drama full of likeable characters.

Easy-going drama like they rarely make these days. You have to be in the mood for that, but if you are, this is a completely enjoyable and charming well-made film.

Would have been better without the opening and closing scenes.

Australian's as Antipodean nitwits does not make a film. Some funny moments and interesting reflections on the moon landing as part of Australia's history, but not a lot else to entice the viewer.

An inoffensive little film, though one with plenty of fudgery in how it dramatises and embellishes the real story. But without that, the film would be threadbare, and these moments of tension don't feel too contrived and offer up some (needed) excitement.

I don't know if the two dramatic hurdles that are presented actually happened, but they feel manufactured. There are decent characterizations and laughs otherwise.
