People aren't kidding when they say this lacks execution. I mean in reality, this has everything to make this kind of movie good. Jackson, RZA making music, and Japanese/Black Exploitation parody to boot. But for some reason or another it doesn't work. The voice cast and plot is surprisingly super boring, but ya know, there are awesome bits, like the hyper violence and cool animation, which save this movie from being a total failiure.

Don't go in expecting any substance or a meaningful narrative for that matter. The story purely exists to give the action some context. It's so the animators have something to animate, which in Afro Samurai's case are epic fight sequences. And to be fair, they're handled exceptionally well, no doubt about it and with only 5 episodes it does not overstay its welcome. So if you're a fan of gory animated action make sure you check this out. Otherwise, you're far better of with Samurai Champloo.

Just as "Resurrection" is my favorite non-family animated movie, this is my favorite non-family animated series. Completely driven by its hyper stylized visuals and amazing cast, "Afro Samurai" rarely has a dull moment with incredible set-pieces and action sequences. Ron Perlman should be in everything.

Cool. Great story, even though it may be taken as just a fighting movie.

Sounds like great fun on paper, but you'll feel disappointed after seeing it. Plot is very poor by anime standards, it's just an excuse for hack&slash action. Animation is stylish and unusual. Overall - decent time-killer, nothing else.

Decent, but this seems more like an anime for people who have never watched one before...Sammy's voice acting is practically wasted on the main, and god awful in Ninja-Ninja. The animation and the style are nice, but that's all that kept me going through this.

Nice pace, nice setting, nice visuals, don't expect any story. For my taste Samuel L. Jackson's character/voice acting was annoying as hell.

Reminds me of Snakes in a Plane. A perfect idea for a Samuel L Jackson movie but the execution isn't there. The plot is bad but the action makes up for some of it.

second part with a concept of story, action plays; - first part, role of imaginary friend of Afro, also all concept about Samuel L. Jakcson which was terrible and all thing that make this so Afro-American and not only Afro.... In all mean: shame, big shame it could be great animation movie...
