You really have to put yourself into a different mindset to watch these older shows. A movie from the early 80s doesn't feel that removed from a movie from, say, the 90s or even early 00s, but a TV sitcom from the early 80s just feels primordial, like watching a movie from the 1930s or something. All this to say that I have a ton of respect for Cheers and its eternal bottle episode vibe - TV episodes as lighthearted character-driven short plays, essentially - but I almost never laugh at it.

Well written with solid characters. One of the better US 80's sitcoms.

One of the better sitcoms to come out of the 80's it featured a talented cast who became their roles in many ways. It missed sometimes and delved into standard fare a lot, but there were moments in the series that were truly touching and human.

One of the only situation comedies I can think of--at least from this general time period--that was consistently funny.

It's a good sitcom, but i stopped watching in season 2 when the immorality became too much.

Good show. Every character on this show was likeable. Especially Norm who relates to everyone because he drinks beer and is depressed all the time. I recorded every Norm... How's life treating you. He give the funniest answers like a baby treats a diaper.

Compared with its peers, it's absolutely a masterpiece. It's definitely dated now but still holds a special place. Although it's a true ensemble show, it really stands on the strength of a few of the characters--mainly Sam, Norm, and Cliff.

One of the very best sitcoms, keeping an impressive quality throughout its 11 year run.

Why do sitcoms always convey that characters are smart by overloading their dialogue with unnecessary details that are usually common knowledge? Diane is always saying things like, "I'm headed off to the cinema to see the 1954 classic Japanese film Seven Samurai, by acclaimed director Akira Kurosawa; Later remade as The Magnificent Seven." We get it you silly bitch. You're going to the movies.

I love this show until about the 5th season. After that everyone is just to much. Carla is too mean, Cliff is too stupid etc. Sam is just too much of everything. Kirstie Alley is a welcome character. She can be very funny.

Probably my favourite sit-com of all time. I really felt like a patron at this bar. I actually cried real tears when the last episode finished.

Cheers was a step up from most American sitcoms of the 1980s, with a really good cast, mature themes and somewhat less sugar.
