'Friends' was about beautiful people sitting on couches. I guess there wasn't a lot to do in the 90s, if that was the premise for a hit show. There we all were, sitting on couches, watching beautiful people sitting on couches. I can't think of many memes or quotes from 'Friends' that I still use today. So when all is said and done, and you have to ask yourself 'Is this 'The Wire'?', then the answer is no. It predates 'The Wire', much like drinking mercury to your health predates modern medicine.

I don't think it's a truly great show, but I find it highly enjoyable. Particularly due to the performances from the male leads who are, all three of them, blessed with comedic timing. One might say that this series did to sitcoms what 'Se7en' did to serial killer movies. For better or worse they make us ask ourselves: Now that we have this, do we need any more of these?

The actors understand their characters far better than the writers do, and it results in well-defined personalities turning to histrionics. As with most sitcoms, these are talented actors given nothing to do, and the audience, whether they realize it or not, nothing to watch. Well, except this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oUc0vbSlanM

There are few sitcoms I despise more than Friends. There were just so many better shows on at the time, and certainly many better shows on TV now. I find Friends to be not all that funny, that people of my generation started watching because it happened to be on, and in a fit of Stockholm Syndrome declared it to be their favorite show. Not worth my time or anybody else's.

I can't say I'm a fan, but if you said you were a huge fan, I'd be okay with that. Unlike if you told me you were a fan of the dumpster fire that is there Big Bang Theory. And that dumpster if full of rotten brussel sprouts, towels used to clean up an overflowed toilet, a bunch of "Lin-sanity" t-shirts from that time Jeremy Lin was the best basketball player in the world for 1 month, and Jim Parson's dignity.

It's not as good as I give it credit for, but it's also better than most give it credit for these days. It married the Seinfeldian friend dynamic with the more traditional likeable character formula in a way that was really enjoyable. When Seinfeld ended, it more or less killed off the traditional multi-cam sitcom. Friends mined the last comedy from the format, and there hasn't been a decent one since.

Watched it again with my lide after 10 years. Now it is easier to see all warts and shortcomings; but at the same time the essence of it makes more sense to me now (also after living in US, I kinda understand why adults need to have homemates; back in the day I really thought that it was only for plotting). It is quite difficult to make something impactful from the innanities of daily life; so it is quite a comedic success.

It overstayed its welcome a bit (not at a Simpsons level, but more at a Scrubs level), but I really, really enjoyed this show and don't care how basic and mainstream that makes me. Along with Troy and Abed, Chandler and Joey is the best male sitcom friendship of all time. Season 5 is the best, when Monica and Chandler are trying to hide their relationship. PIVOT! PIVOT! PIVOT! SHUT UP! SHUT UP! SHUT UUUP!!!

Over the past several years, I have soured a bit more on Friends. I do think that it is good comfort food, but there's this highly targeted and tailored quality to it that I find distasteful now. Sure, it's funny at times, but multi-cam sitcoms are just not as much my thing anymore, and the final couple of seasons feel phoned in from the writing room. Good cast chemistry covers a multitude of sins, but it cannot cover all of them.

Harmless sitcom that treaded the waters of being brilliant but never had the balls to do anything with guts. The worst thing about the show is the insufferable intro with that horrible song, feel tortured thinking about it now. Ross' entire love life in the show is miserable to watch but you have to appreciate Aniston showing nipples on network tv. Could've been better but not completely terrible.

It's That '90s Show but with white friends in New York City, which encapsulates a whole era when you didn't have to worry about all those other pesky things. Pretty memorable milestones in Ross and Rachel's relationship. The characters got better as the series progressed, except for maybe Phoebe who always felt out of place. Great opening theme.

I want to hate it because between Channel 4 and Comedy Central there's never been a second in the last 20 fucking years this bastard show hasn't been on TV. Also, its template has been used to create several putridly sickly sitcom's both in the UK and US since. But I don't hate it. It's just fine, okay, average, acceptable. The cast actually do a good job with not much script wise and it did produce the odd laugh.

Loved it. Everything about it. Lovable and relatable characters, very well performed by the cast, and the chemistry is great between them. For me surely one of the better sitcoms and comedy shows that were out there. Mathew Perry's Chandler is iconic, he nailed that role so good.

When I was in middle school this became extremely popular. I grew up white trash so the extreme homophobia went over well. And it is still extremely popular for some reason. Buzzfeed publishes Friends-related content several times a week, for example. I have never understood the appeal. The characters are unlikable, the jokes are flat and tired, it presents maybe the most diverse city in the history of the world as practically whites only. This is in every way my least favourite thing ever.

Once you power through the extremely dated first two seasons, this show begins to earn its namesake as one of the best sitcoms ever devised. The humor could range from predictable to absurdist and it always stemmed from these six personalities, each of whom is endearing in their own way (yes, even Ross). The storylines won't wow you, but we're here to laugh, and thankfully the Friends writers knew how to be funny.

The writers are awful. Storylines get repeated again and again, and continuity errors are everywhere. Ross & Rachel are insufferable for the first 3 seasons, and the same happens to Monica and Chandler in season 5. Ross comes into his own in a major way on season 6, and becomes the best character for the remainder, taking the torch from Phoebe. I can't bear Jennifer Aniston's whiny nasal voice and constant throat clearing. Matthew Perry is creepy and wishes he was as funny as Joey Gladstone.

The best sitcom show of the 90's. Everyone knows Jennifer Aniston is a true actress that elevated everyone on this show. Without her I don't think this show would have been as successful as it was. I never really understood the hoopla surrounding this very predictable and often unfunny series. Phoebe was the most interesting character but even she got old after a while. This seems to be everyones go to classic show for nostalgia and to feel good about the 90s era. However their are much better shows that define the 90s. It is just another typical sitcom that the fanbase tends to overexagerate how meaningful it is to the landscape of pop culture
