Fascinating biopic of an innovative moment for erotic cinema. It hones in on art, commerce, pleasure, craft, talent, ambition, female sexuality, and how the realities of the world either inhibit us or provide greater drive. Another masterpiece from Simon. Heads up: It probably helps being familiar with his previous works. His storytelling flows more like literature than cinema at times.

This kept getting better and went from good to excellent. The supporting cast is terrific, with characters like Lori, C.C. and Bobby being particularly memorable, and what also makes the show stand out is how the many years that the narrative spans not only deepen our understanding of the evolution of the erstwhile seedy street, but of the denizens and their fates as well.

For me The Deuce is mostly hindered by James Franco's gimmicky double-role. It took me out of the series as i kept wondering how they achieved it. There's also a lot to enjoy, Maggie Gyllenhall and Emily Meade especially. I don't think i'll ever rewatch The Deuce, which is telling because i usually rewatch any David Simon. The Deuce in some places feels a bit like a drag to me, like homework almost.

I wasn't very keen on watching it; I was expecting something extremely depressing. But, being David Simon fan I gave it a chance (and my wife kept pestering me, there is that too. She is my Simon pimp; talked me into Wire too); and I'm amazed. To me, his real talent is to show the human soul and hope and ambition in the most abject conditions possible. Besides, it is a great time-piece oozing with the feeling of the 70s with crazy good acting. My favorite character is Candi, Gyllenhall excelled.

David Simon deliver again! Similarly to The Wire, the pace is slow, the dialogues are long and the topic is complicated and involves people from all sorts of life. Feels genuine and raw. And James Franco in a double roler!

The Wire’ın yaratıcısı David Simon ve yapımcısı George Pelecanos‘un elinden çıkan dizi bizlere The Wire'ın başarısının tesadüf olmadığını ispatlıyor.

I didn't know about Times Square's history at all. David Simon's unmatched talent captures yet another raw slice of genuine american life. Some people gave up on the show because he didn't want to take the fucking out, Candy's plot addresses that in a fourth wally way. Season three is above the rest, it's worth going through the slower episodes: that ending is a true thing of beauty.

Very interesting and unique theme and good atmosphere but that's all. The characters from The Wire has made the show much better. Maggie Gyllenhaal's character was quite irritating. Always talking like she is drunk, perfectionist and a rebel. Although it's quite gripping, there is no strong story. The time passes so quickly. All of a sudden, you find out it's 15 years later. The Wire cast was incredible. Especially Chris Bauer. The pimps were pretty good. Tommy Longo was a great character.

Not quite The Wire or even Treme, but that doesn't mean it's bad. Far from it. Superb ending.

While it's initial season is not as strong as the wire, it shares much of the same strengths. A strong cast, a city that is as much a character as it is scenery and a smart interconnected web from streetwalkers to pimps, to cops to the journalists.I'll keep watching.

Enjoyed the first episode...except for the distractingly silly twin bit. In the final season now, it got less entertaining as it went along.
