This series is not without flaws: There are quite a few flat characters who have a major role in the show. And there are key scenes that seem glossed over because of a lack of understanding as to how they should realistically play out. But there's a lot more to be admired here. There's a sincere examination of very true-to-life character types and an often suprisingly deep sociology of class and privilege. It's a rare and thought-provoking piece that despite its flaws is distinctly compelling.

An exquisite piece by Mike White about some really loathsome people. It was a tough watch at times but it's absolutely worth the trip. Murray Bartlett has the role of a lifetime and there isn't a single weak link in the cast. This was one of the hardest watches since Mad Men for me, featuring similarly detestable characters, however they are rounded and you can feel for almost every character at some point (except Molly Shannon's c. just pure evil.) Season 2 a wee bit less compelling but good!

The White Lotus is a satirical look at the wealthy and how they view others and how they go about their lives. Every cast member plays a role in the larger picture of the story and the social commentary. Such a well executed show that will make you laugh, make you cringe and certain subject matter may make you uncomfortable. Yet every single moment is mesmerizing thanks to the amazing and well rounded cast. Most notable are Bartlett, Coolidge and Daddario. Solid writing with amazing visuals.

I don't think I've ever loved a soundtrack as much. The show is far from a masterpiece, but it's brilliant in its own way with captivating characters and stories. Although filled with mundane, everyday scenes, it's still mesmerizing.

Will definitely get you starting a dialogue either internally or with others about your feelings on the subject White Privilege. White Lotus doesn't exactly take sides on the argument but is deliberately provocative throughout in that regards which is one of the key reasons it proves so interesting. Dark humour, some fine performances, especially Coolidge and Daddario, and frequent stunning visuals from the paradise setting enhance the viewing experience, though it does sag a touch in the middle

A nice little piece on societal roles and colonialism mixed into a character study and silly little murder mystery. Everyone does a nice job but Daddario and Bartlett really shine.

Sorry to say but I can't see the hype. There are a few scenes that are probably meant to be comical, but other than that it's 6 hours (first season) of waiting for something bad to happen, with a mediocre payoff in the end. Some characters have a little development, and a few times more complex backstory is hinted at, but we're generally expected to just accept that them as the caricatures they're portrayed as which makes it difficult to care for any of them.

Makes a good effort to show flawed characters across class divide, but fails to feel authentic enough to become something great. As a result some character arcs may seem sloppy rather than profound. Takes a small bite out of many topics, but does not go deep into any of them. The wait for the series to dig deeper into any of the topics it raised bothered me more that the usual cliffhangers. Nonetheless, entertaining as a people watching soap.

Dark social comedy that is acid drenched. Not so much psychedelic, but more that you can feel it eating the flesh from your bones. Couldn't watch more than one of these a night. Maybe a couple of plot "twists" weren't so surprising, but they were still handled the way they were supposed to be: with industrial-grade tongs.

If you need a testament to the various ways people bullshit themselves and others, here's your series! The writing is mostly clever and restrained, with the occasional spectacle to accentuate. The ensemble is great, with bartlett and coolidge taking the cake. The final episode drags a bit and not all stories are tied up satisfactory, though. Season 2 is basically an extension with altered seasoning, but just as delightfully messed up. Must watch!

Every time those teenage cunts would appear, I would twitch. But at least they occasionally say amusing things, like "Will it make our clits explode?" Jake Lacy is so great when he's doing goofy charm--he does not make a good Type-A asshole, and it's tough to decide who is more repellent: him, or his arch-nemesis Murray Bartlett. The not-so-groundbreaking premise appears to be "the over-privileged are obnoxious". I prefer my satire rather sharper, like the similarly-themed "Succession".

(Through S2) Maybe the best example of a cast containing grey moral areas. Everyone is a sympathetic hero, everyone is an unsympathetic villain. Everyone is right to feel like they do, everyone handles and causes problems needlessly. Watching these rich unempathetic clods bounce off each other in close proximity is a thrill.

Nice ensemble piece. A million times better than 'Enlightened'. Least favorite scenes are those with Coolidge and Hechinger, respectively. Everything else is good to great. Daddario is terrific, and Bartlett is nothing short of a revelation.

What a show this is for both seasons. It is an extremely well written, directed and acted show, with great style and great storytelling. Sometimes close, but it never feels too much in your face about the topics it is actually discussing underneath. An amazing watch through and through.

S1-2 - Light laid back satire depicting wealthy people in lush settings and touching upon subjects such as gender, men-women relationships, class antagonism, ... like the film Triangle of Sadness would later do. Unfortunately, the satire is not biting enough and the series feels superficial in the way it handles its serious themes. Despite featuring several gorgeous actresses, the director seems hell-bent on highlighting male nudity instead.

SEASON 1 - Not without some fine, amusing moments (Bartlett’s corrosive unravelling is a highlight), but the satirical points are too blunt and obvious (with characters prone to dropping cringey exposition) and make the series a well-heeled soap opera rather than something more substantive; there comes a point where the “hat on a hat” accumulation of character quirks becomes wearying, as certain plot points (especially involving Zahn and his brood) seem to be raised and then quickly dropped.

Takes very modern topics and approaches them carefully, thoughtfully, and with sympathy, hardly being cringey (even when occasionally keeping up with modern lingo). A nice and subversive exploration into romantic and familiar relationships -- I certainly preferred season one, which was more humble, over season two, which was a tad more farcical and even too in love with its cynicism.

An excellent showcase of its talented cast, and a surprising amount of depth in its writing. While I do think Season 1 was more fun, Season 2 had a far better and less predictable ending.

It's good but feels like it's HBO trying to recreate Succession, just like Boardwalk Empire felt in regard to The Sopranos. S1: 60, the teenage girls felt forced & the anti-colonial subtext was a bit muddled, though Murray Bartlett shines. Also why does a tech CFO mother only book what looks like a one bedroom suite for a group of 5? S2: 75, the setting and the characters worked better for me, fun to see Imperioli again. S2's intro is also a top 3 show intro song (+ True Detective & Succession).

Not without flaws but way above average. The music and filming are fantastic and great acting as well. It doesn't bite hard enough or go as deep as it could. It also contradicts itself in how it treats certain "weak" characters. Armond's performance is something to remember!

It's a solid show but is it satirical? Is adding some murder what makes it a satire? People act like this in life. What elements are exaggerated to showcase absurdity?

A bit of a weird / rough start, but really becomes great television by the end. That does make it a bit harder to rate, as I'd rate the first half a 7/10 and the second half closer to a 8.5/10. At times very unrealistic and contrived, but at other times really great, also thanks to great performances by the actors.

As a comedy, this is great. The characters are all interesting, (exceptionally) well performed, and there's just a lot of good satirical humor to the imperialism and privilege issues. And Murray Bartlett, wow! I do wish it hadn't been framed up like a murder mystery, as that aspect really fell flat for me. And finally, while I overall appreciated its thematic elements, it still really feels like the creators have a certain perspective (probably aligning most with Olivia).

*hello! I'm a new graduate student trying to prove myself and my deep analytical skills in understanding political and social issues. I read stuff. I may not have a fragment of an original idea but you know what? I can rehash that's everything said and done and package it in a hazy, alluring look and people will be like "oh yes class, colonialism, white supremacy, this and that..."* satire is always limited, but this is also not very funny. what's the purpose of this, really?

What a horrible bunch of entitled people- it's uncomfortable to watch. The only thing worse than many characters in here is the writer/director talking about how characters represent whole groups of people.
