Patton Oswalt: My Weakness Is Strong

It doesn't have the huge gut busters of his previous albums/specials, but it's more solidly built, consistent and less reliant on cultural references for cheap applause. This was about the point where he'd started to make the transition from alpha nerd alt comic to legitimate cultural figure, and it does have a sort of transitiony feel to it. Like an older friend coming home for the summer after his first year of college. (I'm not going to explain that simile, it's not far fetched)

Great stand up.

I consider myself a fan of Oswalt, and most of this material is funny, but I have started to become bothered by his feeling of superiority over others. For example, the bit about the robotic cashier is funny, then he launches into a caricature of a "white trash" cashier that seems more mean than funny, as he rips apart this imaginary person for things like "teenage pregnancy" and "meth addiction". Also, the Obama stuff is...well, it was a different time.

For a guy about to be a father, he says some things you'd never expect a parent to say.

Last twenty minutes or so is great but takes way too long to pick up steam. There's no real rhythm to it, it's just a series of anecdotes you may or may not enjoy. Disappointing because I thought I'd really enjoy his standup.

Seen: 2. 2009 feels like a different era here, but this is some of Patton's best.

Not his best special, but has some great insight into the world and funny references and jokes. Great comedian

The first Oswalt's special I have seen, and instantly he goes onto the short list of comics I find really funny. However, I hope it's not his best. While I could deeply relate to some of the jokes in the beginning of the show, and his take on religion is both on point and original, there is a lot of filler material, like anecdotes about rat or angry magician - well told but pointless.

Not his strongest work, but still well worth watching.
