Made me into a Trekkie again. Just really wonderful scifi with radical empathy written all over it. It has so much heart and emotional wisdom (and logic!!!) and making me long for FALGSC.

(S1) It's safe to say this blew my expectations clear out of the water. Only one season in, and it's already making a strong case for the best Trek show ever. From the colourful, likable cast of characters played by a charismatic ensemble to the well-paced tighty-plotted Science Fiction storytelling, SNW is the modern high-budget Trek show that I never knew I wanted.

Only 7 episodes in, but the show has settled in comfortably. It is not anything amazing, but if you liked The Next Generation, you will probably like this. Everyone is slotted into their role and philosophical conflicts take front and center. Good second tier binging material. Edit - second season complete - Leaps ahead in storytelling and character building, both serious and fun. This quickly became the best Star Trek show , in my eyes.

The best Star Trek of this current generation, SNW learned from the wars with fans over Discovery, and came back with a much more consistent re-imagining of the era right before the original series. It carries with it the improvements in storytelling of our age, it's contemporary in attitudes without ever being preachy, and man is it ever shiny.

Rating pertains only to Season 2 - cannot remember seeing season 1. IMO very lightweight and doesn't engage much at all. Dunno if I'm remembering the original (sadly I'm old enough to have watched that when it was new... cannot say I'm a Trekkie , I only watched the original sporadically but the characters here do not have the appeal of the original, bar the Pike character, and as for the stories - BORRRRING, puerile and generic. Could only watch till midpoint.

One of my favorites! Has very much the same feeling as the original Star Trek. Very character driven and adventurous. Love it.

I think this is slightly better than Discovery, but both shows do really well in different kinds of storytelling. This show obviously wants to focus more on the style that made Star Trek popular in the first place, although still a bit modernized, while Discovery is obviously following a little bit closer to the reboot movie style, although it does get closer to the originals than those movies did. Both are a bunch of fun.

And this is how you make a worthwhile Star Trek series, not that emotional Discovery crap. This feels like coming home and meeting your long lost best childhood friend. If you're an old Trekkie, you'll love it.

The most-watchable new Trek series, mostly due to it being self-contained episodes just like the good ol' days; and not the endless hundreds of hours storylines!

The show falls back to the episodic format of the old Star Trek and while season 1 was good (72/100), season two, minus a couple of silly episodes, is almost impressive (80/100). Some of the best script writing, even when taking all the Star Trek series into account.

Finally, someone remembered why we liked episodic fiction in the first place. Multiple character arcs play out over each season, but each episode has a distinct story with a distinct feel and its own individual climax. Furthermore, it does a good job bringing in and updating elements from TOS - Uhura and Chapel get amazing arcs, and Spock feels worthy of the character Nimoy forged. It tips a little far into melodrama sometimes, but ultimately it's satisfying. (And S2 is even better than S1!)

Decent acting and production. It never excites me. Looking forward to season 5 of Discovery.
