An absolute visual feast. Ever since I saw The Cell I knew that Tarsem Singh had an incredible talent for creating beautiful but haunting imagery and that he needed a movie with a good story to really receive acclaim. The Fall, though not without it's flaws, is that movie. The visuals are just gorgeous and an absolute wonder to behold and the story itself is quite good and the surreal moments blend in superbly. Splendid and entertaining film.

I absolutely loved this movie. There's essentially two stories going on, the fantasy and the reality. EVERY SINGLE SHOT of the fantasy is a thing of pure beauty, its incredible. A true feast for the eyes, no cg to be found, just amazing scenery, vivid colors, and perfect shot composition. As for the reality, the acting is so naturalistic due to the slightly improv aspect of it, and Catinca Untaru is perfect. I laughed, and I held back tears.Watch it on a big screen with an open imagination.

I love this. The locations and costumes are mindblowing. Incredible visuals, great music, and in addition a story deep enough to swim in (although the end could've been better). Requires multiple viewings. I'd like to say it's perfect, but it's not.. It has it's flaws, but it doesn't matter. It has more vision than I've seen in recent years. The movie industry needs more of this. Watch it once for the visuals of the fantasy alone. Then watch it once more to understand the intertwined plots.

Too much Baraka watching by Singh. His inspiration seems to be bagging good looking imagery regardless it's plain plagiarization or within context. First there is a superficial story, then there is a needless deconstruction of it. If there is a build-up or a connection somewhere, it's not apparent.I liked the non cute, non supersmart or imaginative girl. Unluckily fantastic movies started going into a pattern over the last few years.

Storytelling at its finest. I'd love to see more of Catinca Untaru in the future, she was just perfect for this role. A movie that seemlessly combines real and imaginary to a whole new level with some of the most stunning settings to date.

While yes, it's visually stunning and probably worth viewing on that merit alone, but the story just isn't there. Some aspects of the story are intentionally not well thought out, that doesn't excuse it in my eyes. It's so painfully obvious that Tarsem comes from music videos and commercials, this movie is all style and little to no substance. Other movies that attempted similar feats and succeeded (to varying degrees) were Big Fish and Pan's Labyrinth.

On a purely visual level, The Fall is mindblowing. Every shot in the story being told is gorgeous. The surprising lack of CGI is a treat, and the switches between the fantasy telling and the L.A. hospital are at júst the right time. 2 Hours of charming innocence and restrained drama that will fly by fast and will leave you wanting more.

At first it was only the stunning visuals keeping me watching what is a very fragmented story. As things progressed, however, all the little elements started drawing me in and any complaints about the structure melted away as I was whisked into a world that constantly contrasted innocence and tragedy in the most beautiful way imaginable. In some bizarre way the flaws seem integral to the film's strengths and I can't imagine this being done any other way.

The charge of style over substance seems to me to miss the more interesting aspects of this playful narrative. Perhaps the darker parts are handled rather clumsily, with the result that the tone is ambiguous and uneven, but there is something meanspirited about the brutality of reviews along the lines of Dennis Harvey's in Variety. Something is going on here, and even if the result is imperfect, it is undeniably unique and something more than a glorified music video, as has been suggested.

Over my blank years on this Earth, I've collected a few films that are primarily reserved for making me cry. They vary in quality and genre. They're films that I enjoy and also happen to speak to me in a way that crushes my soul in an appropriate way. This happens to be one of those films. The switch from what he perceives as her father to what she has been imagining all along is when I might as well put a box of tissue in my lap.

Tarsem's two movies are truly wonderful to look at but, while I liked the premise, I found it difficult trying to care what happened to the characters in the story told within the narrative of the film. It's still a must-see for the breathtaking visuals, though, and I'm very much looking forward to his fantasy project, 'Immortals'!

The whole thing is overwrought, meaning that some initially impressive visuals and winking humor collapses in on itself thanks to the emotional lead weight thrown at our heads. I feel like Singh is the M. Night Shyamalan of production design, and the rise of stuff like A24 in the 2010's killed his niche.

There is a strong The Cell feeling in here. And the story is unfortunately again non-successful. I like the colourful fantasy scenery and combination of reality/story. I struggled to enjoy this. It is less than two hours long but it really drags, I was clock watching a lot. The characters aren't really that engaging and the fantasy subplot is poor by design. I suppose some of it looked nice but really, you've seen it done elsewhere and in films with stories engaging enough to back them up. Gilliam, Del Toro, Henson - these are the guys you're looking for.

This film is made up entirely of pretty visuals and interesting color contrasts but the plot and dialog is rather predictable. Very striking images, but not terribly original; in fact, it's a remake of a film called Yo Ho Ho. It's kind of a cross between Baraka and Princess Bride, with a handful of other stuff. As a plus, this movie doesn't take itself too seriously. But it's an odd balance between the tongue-in-cheek world of the imagination and the more serious goings-on in the real world, and it doesn't gel. I found it difficult to become very engaged. When the weepy climax came, I was literally rolling my eyes.

The way that real life blends with the story told in the film is really something to behold, and some of the scenes (especially when the girl "falls") are even more stunning than the story itself. A beautifully realized yet flawed movie - mainly because, for a movie about storytelling, it tells its story pretty poorly. Not that I don't appreciate the focus on the anamorphic nature of tell tales and scatter shot of imagination, but you need to get almost to the end of the film before you get an excuse to care about the protagonists. I had a really hard time getting into the plot line (did anyone else feel it had a sort of Pan's Labyrinth feel to it?), but despite all that it's still quite enticing on eyes. Visually splendid but ultimately empty (and very self serious) fantasy has some nice set pieces and design work, but a lack of a compelling narrative (and the distancing conceit of the storyteller) ultimately makes the fantasy difficult to embrace and become involved with. Takes its inspiration from the more out-there Gilliam films (and has odd echoes with the concurrent PAN’S LABYRINTH) – if you’re a fan of these, you’ll likely embrace this one too.
