The background doesn't make sense or at least seems half-baked. Overall a nice murder dark comedy with a lot of dumb character decisions, but the plot moves along at a good pace to stop from being too boring. Someone else compared it to Fargo and I can agree with the similarities. Nice to see character actor Margo Martindale in the spotlight; wish Annette O'toole had a bigger role. Fav scenes: need more movies with Maine sea shanties.

Rarely have I been so close to actually cheering for a film to be better. Great poster, great logline. (Don't wanna feel like a sucker, you know.) Opening both atmospheric and playful, right amount of arch, which doesn't hinder the filmmakers in establishing and maintaining a convincing milieu and reason for investment. What does is annoyingly clumsy plotting that really undermines the credibility of this supposedly insular community. Still, better than some other very Coensy comic crime things.

There's an early Cohen-esque feel to this I really like; that feel of ordinary people just making things worse. Unfortunately it can't completely sustain itself once it hits the bit where the plot takes over the characters' decisions. Still, a cold, smelly mystery that works.

Maybe it was my mood, but I found myself not caring about any of these characters or their stories. Visually pretentious.

The over-familiarity of plot elements hurt this fairly unambitious "snowball" thriller, but what makes this memorable is its sense of its rugged and hermetic community, with a well-stacked supporting cast bringing life to these characters (Martindale, O'Toole and Squibb bring a terrific and welcome energy to this). Goes off in too many unexplored directions where it would have been better focused on its wounded leads; the choral "greek chorus" of local fisherman is an inspired touch!

With a great cast, setting, and Greek chorus, Blow the Man Down has a lot going for it right out the gate. Ultimately, its narrative lets it down as the third act closes with a bit of a whimper. Still, its worth seeing if only for a unique slice-of-life folk in a precarious situation. I will certainly seek out what these two filmmakers do next.

Starts great and kind of runs out of steem in the second half, but it's a good Fargo-like mystery murder driven by women's will to make things right. Dirty secrets about prostitution and women exploration come to light after a murder, only to unite some of them again in order to undo what happened in the past. All because some ugly men wanted to get laid, some these ladies organized a whorehouse to protect their kids. It all starts and ends with horrid men.

Started off really promising, felt like it was going to be more original. Ultimately it became a good murder mystery, which I'm completely okay with, but it could have been more. I liked seeing this kind of flick in a different type of setting, for the most part the acting was solid, but it lacked the kind of oomph that this kind of flick might need to put it over more. Thought the soundtrack was neat, directing was fine and I'm looking forward to seeing whatever they do next.

This was just such a fun little movie. Subdued, doesn't need excess violence or nudity to deliver a story, but certainly keeps itself very gritty at times. There's a definite charm to small-town mysteries and I really liked the fact that there were some older women there scheming in the background and more knowledgeable of many things than most. Solid acting + SEA SHANTIES.

destined to be underseen and underrated but it'll stick to your bones. it's Hitchcock in a New England fishing village.

Great to see a brand new, original, simple and engaging movie. It think the coastal Maine setting really helped it along as well. Good crime thriller/drama.

Danielle Krudy ve Bridget Cole'ın ortak yönetmenliğinde dikkate alınabilecek Amazon Original yapımı ilk filmleri Blow The Man Down'ın, geçtiği kasabadaki gibi kıyıda köşede kalması üzücü. Fargo'ya benzerliğiyle yan hikayesi gibi olduğunu andırıyor. İzlenilebilir durumda.

Starts promising but delivers almost everything it offers within the first half. It's a shame because the movie has a few things to offer that are ultimately under-utilized.

Fun. A little bit too indecisive in the final act but a cool sense for place and the people it breeds.
