So-so. Everything about the film could've been done better.

Too much of the focus is wasted on a dull romance, giving little insight into Chanel's business savvy approach to becoming the icon of her day. Tautou's performance, unfortunately, takes a back seat to the extravagant fashions on parade.

Quite a leap at the end, but enjoyable, nonetheless.

A mostly average biopic with some bright spots of clever dialogue and an impressive performance from Tautou. It gets bonus points for being mostly unsentimental and blunt, which is a good thing for biopics.

Costume drama with a dull love story. Film was wondering it the marshes I was not that keen to follow. Cinematography was time after time interesting.

Coco Chanel was interested in creating clothes for women to replace their current outfits which she saw as lifeless, restrictive and there for show before all else. Strange then that this film should fit in to all three of those categories. It's a perfectly decent and enjoyable time with beautiful costumes and a really good performance by Audrey Tautou (and a not so good performance from Benoit Poelvoorde) but rarely engages with the head and even more rarely with the heart.

Die Geschichte ist recht langweilig und auch vorhersehbar. Der Film handelt leider größtenteils von der Zeit, bevor Coco Chanel eine erfolgreiche Geschäftsfrau wurde.

This took me a while to get into, but in the end I liked it. The The slow build to where she's finally designing hats had me twiddling my thumbs at times. I also didn't find the movie very visually interesting, where it could have been flashy considering the subject matter. We're not watching just any old period drama here, but it was filmed as such.

It's fine. Rather lacking in drama and moving between scenes without any real conclusions. Entertaining all the same though.

Misses the magic of Amelie, but Audrey Tautou is still enjoyable as Coco Chanel.

Lovely scenes and beautiful soundtrack...The moment movie jumps to her later years as the fashion legend, and finish abruptly, you'll feel like you've slept and missed the fun part of the movie.. As a Chanel fan I'd like to see 'Chanel II: Chanel apres Coco' from the same cast please:)

She wasn't terribly likable, but I think that's more to do with history than filmmaking.

I don't know, if it is Tautou who made the story interesting, or the story was great by itself and Tautou just added more charm. Most of the time I enjoyed it, just at the beginning suddenly popped out some immediate business in the internets. I probably started watching some pictures with cute animals involved.

I thought this was OK. Good parts and bad parts. The dialogue was at time very sharp and clever. But the film did lack that certain something, and it probably could have been made better. Tautou maybe wasn't her usual stunning self either.

"Fontaine dramatizes Coco's struggles respectfully if mundanely, crafting believable period detail for her procession of key-life-moment scenes, all of which employ serviceable but far from groundbreaking psychologizing." - Nick Schager

A soulless take on the fashion legend. Chanel's life was of little interest before her clothing career, but Fontaine concentrates precisely on those years before the success. Also, I prefer Mouglalis to Tatou.

Enjoyable and stylish - sweeps over the les palatable aspects of her early life but lays the foundation for her success, as a woman ahead of her time..

Well-dressed tedium. Writer and director Anne Fontaine presumes your interest on the grounds that the dark-eyed orphaned heroine will go on to renown as Coco Chanel.

Tautou is at her best, and some of the shots are amazing, but the powerful woman is unhappy without a man theme is a little troubling.
