Gambit

Not really a disaster, but just a subtly funny, but often dated and clichéd art heist film. Brothers Coen's talky, neo-noirish characters are clearly noticeable -- and remain both intelligent and stupid --, despite the plot's lack of originality. It was made years after Hudsucker Proxy and Burn After Reading, so it makes almost impossible to fully appreciate it. Diaz's cutest overacting ever.

Literally every character in this movie annoyed me.

Good ol' fashioned frolics'n'fun. I'm not sure Colin Firth works that well here, but Diaz is surprisingly good, and I really enjoyed the hyper-witty, super-literate screenplay (by the Coens). There's a focus on comedy over high-wire Hustle-style con-upon-con, which I feel is a refreshing change (as much as I love that format, laughs being given a priority works better here). A pleasant, amiable and fun movie.

Fairly average despite a pretty good cast.

There were some major laughs throughout this film written by the Coen brothers. I'll admit, it's just another heist movie... there isn't anything new or spectacular in this film as far as the crime genre goes, but I thoroughly enjoyed it...

There is nothing to enjoy about this movie. Colin Firth just doesnt work in comedy, he lacks the charisma great comedy actors have. Im not sure what accent Cameron Diaz was tryting to portray but she should never do it again, its incredibly annoying. Im really disapointed the Coen brothers would release such garbage, luckily they have a back catalogue to fall back on! No-one comes out of this film with any dignity, its appauling!

There's a fun little caper in here but, beneath half-arsed farce and culture-cash clichés, didn't quite come together.

Not one of my favourite Coen brothers films, but it has some great scenes. Whilst Colin Firth is great at deadpan comedy, his character wasn't likeable enough... Luckily, my desire for him to prevail was built into the genre, otherwise I would not have cared.

A light bit of goofy fluff, which is helped by the fact that it's a remake of a light bit of goofy fluff. I liked the ending-- not downbeat, but an acceptance of a game won and life merely continuing as planned.

A film of two halfs. The first not so good, the second much better. Mainly in the performance but possibly because you settle in to the slightly too broad farcical tone.

It's fun, but doesn't really click. Cameron Diaz with the accent is weird.

Colin Firth is a great cast against type. Nothing groundbreaking here but the Coens clearly had fun writing it.

Deane's failures and awkwardness were a bit funny at once, though the more cartoonish parts kind of clash with the rest and drag the movie down. There are far worse comedies out here however, so by comedy standards, it was above average.

It's a lighthearted caper movie. It doesn't take itself too seriously and it more of a fun ride than an amazing work of art. The ending took me off guard a little and changed how I looked at the rest of the movie. Some of the humor maybe gets a little absurd and Diaz may not be your first idea when you think Texas cowgirl, but overall it was an enjoyable little movie. Nothing spectacular, but certainly not bad either.

This film has a mediocre script that does not really go anyplace exciting. The cast tries hard with the weak material. Cameron Diaz is miscast here in this movie. Overall this film is disappointing.

Cameron Diaz was almost good in this. Colin Firth was a somewhat comical straight man, but this role was not a particularly good one for him. Alan Rickman always makes a good jerk a-hole. The plot was mostly stupid and all over the place. I saw the tidy wrap up at the end from a mile away. I disliked everything about the Japanese characters and roping the lion. Overall it was rather unimpressive, not funny enough and nothing much was new or very interesting.
